Hey guys, I am trying to figure out why I need an adjustable Panhard Rod. I'm not exactly sure how this stuff works on the suspension, could someone enlighten me on how the Panhard rod works? Or more general, how our rear suspension works? I tried howstuffworks.com, but they have only general specifications.
A panhard rod controls the axle's center and lateral movement. When lowered, the axle has a tendancy to shift outward. An adjustable PR will allow you to adjust for this. If you aren't lowering your car, there's no need for an adjustable PR.
The panhard bar centers the chassis over the rear axles.
You only need an adjustable one if you change the ride height of the car (lower it) because your chassis will be an inch or two off center to one side or another. Stock height doe not need this adjustable part.
So if you lower your car you need this part otherwise it does nothing for you over the stock panhard bar.

Partially true. The axles may actually be off-center from the factory, but it's not really as noticable with the stock tires. But once wider tires get put on, it becomes more pronounced. I'm not lowered, but mine was off about 1/4" to the passenger side.

Well clearly your car is a piece of crap Don. How can you still drive that thing?

Except that the bushings on the stock bar aren't worth a damn and the brace is a cheesy piece of stamped steel.
And the Steeda set that I got is allegedly 5lbs less, and obviously much stronger. Any reduction in unsprung weight is good!

Holy poop, I laughed.
I was gonna say. It's as ugly as it is slow.
My Panhard bar arrived, from tha factory, adjustable, only I didn't know it until I missed the rear axle, with the floor jack, in the dark, and gave it a few pumps.
Adjusted it right there in my driveway.
In the event I get wider tires, I will soon be replacing it with an adjustable PB, from BMR. Lighter and I can set the axle position perfectly.

Yep. No problems either. I figured I'd hear clunks or squeaks or something. I actually was pretty sure the car would crab slightly but nope. When I checked with my hands, the axle is still centered and visually it looks perfect . It makes me wonder if it wasn't just right before and I accidentally fixed it when I "adjusted" it. Made it a little shorter. If I get a non-adjustable one, I will paint the old one bright yellow and put it on eBay as a "modified OE panhard bar".
