Default How does custom tuning work??

This may be a stupid question but i dont understand how tuning works. ive tried to understand it by reading threads related too it but maybe someone could clear it up for me a bit. i know it overrides factor limits but if i bought a tuner does it matter what intake i currently have because i have a BBK cold air intake that i bought because it said it worked right out of the box without a tune. does that mean buying a tuner isnt really worth it? the only other change ive made so far is a borla cat-back exhaust. and if it is worth it to pick up a tuner what is the best one. i notice some are about 500 and others 300 is the extra money worth it for the highest end one?

any help is really appreciated thanks.

A tune combined with your air intake will make a big difference,it is a great mod for your stang.I would get the xcalibrator 2 from Justin at Vmp tuning.Your throttle response will be razor sharp and you can expect a 20-30 horsepower increase.

I'm surprised that BBK claims no tune required. It's basically the same design as the C&L which will cause the car to run lean without a tune. www.brenspeed.com, www.bamachips.com, www.evoperform.com, www.dynojoe.com, and www.vmptuning.com can all build tunes specific to your setup.

When I installed my C&L the car would not even start until the tune was installed.

The tuner optimizes your computer settings so that you can make full use of the mods you make. Your computer needs to know what you've done so it'll run properly.
