Default 2007 Mustang GT PCM removal

First off, hello everybody. My name is Kevin and I have a 2007 Mustang GT among other things. I need to get the computer out to read the numbers on the back. Do I have to take off the whole black bracket thing that holds it in or is there some way to get it out easier, cuz to get to some of those bolts it looks like ill have to get under the car.

The good news is when I get that done, they order my programmer and I get my ford racing supercharger and steeda 3 point rear brace welded in. w00t!

Welcome aboard... There should be a white sticker with a 4 digit code on the top or side of the PCM. That's all you need.

Nope, not that number. Here is what the guy from the shop emailed to me:

"Number of the computer-- The computer is located in the engine compartment, on the passenger side. You will need to unhook the connectors going to it, and unbolt it to get the number. There is a white tag that will have a few numbers on it. The number I need is the 12A650 number, there should be 4 numbers and letters in front of it and two behind it. _ _ _ _ 12A650 _ _"

I've never heard of any tuner requiring more than the calibration code. Not sure what they're doing with it. Sounds like you'll need to unbolt it then.

This is for the FRPP 500hp supercharger kit. I was only asking because it looked like there might be a trick to get it to slide out without having to unbolt the whole bracket.

Thanks for your quick replies! Ill get to unboltin 2nite....and i swore i wouldnt do any of the work on this car myself.

I'm still trying to figure out what he's going to do with it. Never heard of this either with these cars. Are you getting a tuner with your s/c (SCT, Diablo, etc.)?

My guess it's the FRPP tuner that comes with many of their performance mods.

yea its my understanding that you give ford a mod list and they make a tool that just uploads it their custom tune for you. so like if i do anything else i have to get another module to tune it

Correct... it is a handheld device similar to the SCT Xcal2 or Diablosport Predator that plugs into the OBDII port. Only difference being the Xcal and predator only require the 4 digit calibration code to build a tune. I guess the Ford tuner is a little different.

You don't need to take the PCM completely out. Unclip the harness, remove the screws, and push the module out of the bracket just enough so that you can read the sticker on the back, then reverse to put it back in there.
