Default 2007 Mustang GT, Passenger Airbag Light Question

How is the passenger airbag light supposed to act on a 2007 GT? Specifically is the light supposed to be ON when no one is sitting there? Or is it supposed to just flash upon startup?

I've read the owners manual, but I cant find the section stating speifically how it's supposed to act. I haven't called the dealer yet, thought I'd pose the question here 1st.

Thanks for all your help!!

It should be off unless it detects a weight lower than it's set for. When I set my backpack on the seat the light comes on.

Well I may have a problem then. I have never seen it stay on, even after an adult sits in it. I only see it turn on for a second or two when I start the car.

When I get it back from the paint shop, I'll take it into the dealer.....

Thanks again!

when it senses little weight approx 30-80lbs it will shut off the air bag meaning light is on... it will shut off until it does not sense weight any more or the weight gets bigger. also it will shut off air bag (light on) when you dont have any weight on the seat and your belt is buckled. if it senses no weight at all the air bag is activated(light off). if it senses weight over 80lbs it will activate the air bag(light off) wich is the about the weight a grown really skinny adult. you probably dont have a problem

is it 80lbs? i thought i might have read 40-45lbs, but either way, if it senses too little weight (ie a kid) it shuts off the airbags.

ok, so I got the car back this weekend and here is what is going on.

The passenger airbag is seemingly ALWAYS on. The Pass Airbag Off light NEVER stays on. It is in for about 1 second when I start the car, but that's it.

I don't think that is right, do you guys?

If no one is sitting there, it will go off after a second.
It is only on if there is a small weight on it, like mentioned above.

Also if there is not weight on the seat and you have the buckle attached the light will stay on thinking a child under the sensor weight is in the seat.
I had a seat belt extender attached to the pass seat buckle and the ligt stayed on, and it puzzled me until i realized the it senses seatbelt engagement.

I just had this problem. My light would stay on all the time if anything/anyone was in the passenger seat. The dealer had to replace my airbag, and other parts to correct the problem.

When you start the car the light will come on for a few seconds and then go off. If the light stays on constantly or it flashes at you you have a problem with your passenger side airbag. You can check for obstructions beneath the seat, in the slide tracks, or a short in wires beneath the seat that may cause the light to stay on.

If a child is in the seat under 80 lbs., a bag is in the seat less than 80 lbs., or the seat belt is buckled the light will come on and stay on to let you know that the air bag is off.

Your dealer can correct the problem usually takes three days for parts and about two hours to correct.

It's functioning normally. Last night, I buckled the seat belt, then starte to drive and the light was on. I was under the impression that the light was supposed to be on ALL the time. Obviously, I was wrong. One of the very few times........

Here's what I know about my 2006 GT, when my 42 lb. grandson is seatbelted into the sit on his booster seat, the light stays on (and I slide the seat back as far as it will go just for good measure).
Glad yours seems to be working correctly now.

i think it might be around there or higher.. because one of my friends is under 100lbs.. and the airbag sensor doesnt read him..
