If my car is in neutral idling with the clutch out it makes a noise like a house fan with bad bearings . If you push the clutch in ,the
noise goes away.
That is a throwout bearing. Just take it to the dealer and have him replace it.

So I took it to the dealership this morning and had a mechanic ride with me. He said it was "gear rollover" and is normal on Mustang manual transmissions. What do you think, should I believe this guy?

Yes it is real... It sounds like a light rattle or whirring noise when the clutch is released. It's worse on cars with aftermarket clutches/flywheels.

Question #1 When I accelerate routinely, let off the gas completely, put in the clutch - the engine continues to accelerate, two or three hundred RPM beyond the point where I let off the gas.
Is this common, or normal?
Question #2 No matter the conditions of running time or heat, it seems to me the fan is running. Does the fan always run? If not, under what conditions does it ordinarily kick in?
This has happened to me if I give it very little gas while letting the clutch out. I just chalked it up to chatter from not enough gas.

I would, too, but I made a point of getting fully off it, and it still zooms up some. Not a big problem, but it makes me wonder if the fly-by-wire is over-thinking, and if it might do that in other, more serious circumstances ...
I have an 08 and I get the same noise when I start too slowly. I chalk it up to the nature of the beast for this tranny as others have mentioned. Be thankful it doesn't grind going into 3rd gear when cold. Although it hasn't happened to me the last several times. I'm hoping it is gone or my method is working.

After a year of trying to destroy my transmission it still sounds the same. No better or No worse.
This thread is a perfect example of how to get bad information on the internet. I love all the posts where people are 100% sure they know what they are talking about but they are dead wrong. If you don’t know what it is for sure don’t post anything or tell the original poster you are making a guess. I only saw two posts with a diagnosis that were right and one was about the other.
