Default 2008 GT Grinding at low RPM in 1st Gear

Hey all, I have had my 2008 GT for a few weeks now and I noticed that when I start slowly in first gear with a small amount of throttle I get a sort of grinding sound between 1000-1200 rpm. If I ride the clutch a little longer and give it more throttle so that the clutch is not all the way out until 1500-1700 rpm then there is no grinding sound. There is only about 650 miles on the car, is this just part of the break in period? Any ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated!

It seems more profound after driving a while (10+ miles), at which point I also notice a mild dentist's drill like sound when idling in neutral.

I get the same sound sometimes when starting out slow and easy. This is a prime example of why I hate to drive this car like a granny in heavy traffic. This particular issue aside, the car has an inherently noisy drivetrain. Whether easy driving is the cause or just makes it more noticeable/audible I'm not sure, but things like that aren't a big deal for me.

Not sure about your sound at idle & neutral - I can honestly say I've never experienced that.

I have the same problem also 2nd and 3rd don't sound good either. I'm meeting with the Ford rep next week to discuss
a new tranny. I will post the results of the meeting.

Could be a defect in the pressure plate or flywheel. It may go away but I'd take it in and have it looked at.

I have the same noise, I also read somewhere on this forum that it was the nature of the manual trans.

Welcome and the best thing is to take it back to the dealer. If your riding the clutch at that rpm it maybe the throwout bearing going.

My 2008 is kinda noisy too at times, ONLY when I drive it like a Granny, as in heavy traffic or when I'm driving into the garage that has a slight incline to it and being careful not to fast into the garage. Sometimes I think it's just me not giving enough throttle but it is a noisy drive train IMHO. It seems to be worse if the car has been running a while. But I think it's just how the car is and not a problem.

What I notice is the noise is worse when the car is not under a load, and when I mean under a load - If you start off on an incline or drive it like you stole it, it's just the sweet sound of the mustang and under a load, but if your on a flat street and taking it in and out of gear as in traffic, it gets noisy like the tranny / clutch is getting tired or fatigued.

Does that make sense??

Is that the same thing you are getting?

I wounder if this is the begining of a new problem with the 08s or throwout bearing. If they are riding the clutch when its happening then it most likely is the bearing.

Same here, it's not a riding the clutch issue. I think it the nature of the manual beast. I have read many posts on this.

My first post on this forum was about my tranny noise and I've
tried a lot of things to stop it. Amsoil and Dynamat and a new shifter and it's still there. The shop foreman at the dealership said all the noise was Normal and now he has changed his mind that's
why I have a meeting with the Ford rep.

Sounds like the throw out bearing.

If my car is in neutral idling with the clutch out it makes a noise like a house fan with bad bearings . If you push the clutch in ,the
noise goes away.
