I decided to get a new TB. I got the stock one off, but when I removed the cover that contains the gear and spring assembly, the spring went flying and I don't know it's proper orientation in the unit. I think the small side goes in towards the unit, but I'm not 100% sure. Attached are some photos. Thanks for the help.

Why did you get a new TB??
I just looked on the DVD and they only show the TPS R&R. nothing on the left side.

Strange, I just got through having this same problem with my throttle body. The end of the spring with the little hook goes in the hole in the gear and the other end goes in the plastic adapter. After installing the throttle motor cover don't forget to remove the dust cap and take a pair of small pliers and clock the spring 180 degrees CCW(counter clockwise) untill it locks into place. You'll feel it snap when it locks.
Let me know if this is not self explanatory and I will try to make it clearer.
Good Luck!

You could tie a chain to your new throttle body and use it as boat anchor maybe?
There are tons of people over 450 HP on the stock TB.
The only TB worth getting is the black diamond - until KB releases theirs soon.

Well, I guess I'm a sucker then. I thought I read that a bigger one would help a bit if you had some cams, which is the next planned mod for me. Eh, whatever. Too late now.
After a couple of hours of cussing and throwing things, I finally got it on and all is well. The little opening of the spring goes on the circular plastic piece and the larger opening goes on the side with the gears. No biggie.
I got the MotoBlue TB. It was pretty cheap on ebay; like $140. I wasn't going to pay $250-300 for the BBK. I guess it's ok. I didn't notice anything really on the way to work or on the way home today. I didn't really get to punch it either, so I'm kinda like, eh, whatever. Maybe a tune would help, but I'll take care of that when I get the cams installed, which barring a miracle, won't happen until early in the new year.

It really is of no value on a stock 3v. With the built engine, heads, and cams I'm able to use the extra air.
I'm considering holding out for heads as well. Figure if they are already in there, they might as well replace those too. Heads are just bolt-in, correct? Can they replace the cams without removing the heads, or does removing them just make life easier for them?

The cams can be replaced without pulling the heads but it is much easier to do with the heads off.
