Default Boss Hood from Reflexxion Products any good?

I saw an add in February's edition of Mustang Monthly for a Boss Hood from Reflexxion Products. It's distributed by www.musclecardirect.com. I checked it out and it looks pretty good. It's all steel but is essentially the same weight as the stock hood. One question that the web site doesn't address is if the scoop is functional. Anybody have one of these?

Looks interesting... Doesn't appear to be a functional scoop from what I read. Say ram air 'style'. Would think if it were functional, they'd be pushing that fact.

I know someone sells just the Boss 429 style hoodscoop only (a couple AFM posters have added it to their hoods). Wouldn't it be cheaper to buy a scoop, have it painted to match your car, and then mount it?

I really don't want a non functional part on my car. I've never been fond of bolt on's that don't serve a real purpose other than looks. If that hood was functional, then I would consider it. It's just my personal preference....

Might be worth a call just to verify!

Sorry. I'm having a hard time understanding the concept. My Mustangs are all non-functional other than looks.

What I mean is that I don't want to bolt on or tape on a hood scoop to my existing hood. Nothing wrong with it if thats your taste, but thats not my cup of tea.

Aren't the heat extractors on the Shelby functional?

They would be if the car was ever driven. And the shaker hood on the '01 Cobra would also be functional if the car was ever driven. Sorry to be so misleading, but I meant that all three entire cars are for looks only and therefore non-functional. (Which is why I was kidding about having a hard time understanding the concept of needing anything to be functional. Obviously not a very good attempt at humor.)

I would love to have a S197 that had functional hood scoop, 1/4 window scoops, and side scoops. that would be a sweet ride

I've got a Reflexxion hood, I can answer most of your questions.

The hood is steel, but is not the same weight as stock. Aluminum and steel don't weigh the same, and you can definitely feel it when you open this hood. In fact, I've had MRT hood struts on the car, but they won't hold the new hood up. I've had the hood since Oct. '06 (they actually used my car as a feature car in SEMA that year).

As for being functional, my painter cut the metal out behind the grill (the front end is a plastic grill that screws onto the metal hood) so air, water, whatever can get into the engine bay. There is no way to route that air to the filter however. And no, I don't get any hood flutter even at 100mph.

I'm still trying to get stronger struts for the hood, and just found a site that I should be able to get a pair from.

By the way, I see the hood on the front page there, but the link doesn't take me to anything.

I've been wondering who was selling these hoods. I've seen one other in Vegas, on a black V6.
