The prices have really diverged over the years. In the 60s they were much closer in price.
I believe that is mainly because a mustang is still referred to as a "Muscle car" and the vette is called a "high performance car" because that is what they are.
But on a side note, i would much rather have a mustang any day over a vette. Do the math, 4 seats in mustang, 2 seats in a vette. So that means your get 3 sets of boobs in the mustang and 1 set in the vette. Which would you rather have

No it just means they have to sit on each others laps
Vettes are for guys with a lot of money who are going through a midlife crisis
Quote:
The vette just screams bomber jacket and a guy named Biff.
Well I've had 3 vettes, last one was a C5 Z06, and then a Viper...before I took on this mustang project. I'm definitely in midlife...not sure on the crisis part...don't think I am. If a defining characteristic of "midlife crisis' is being a corvette owner...then maybe I was...but then did I get better or worse when I bought the Viper...lol. As far as the second quote...never had a bomber jacket and don't understand the Biff reference?

it was an article in a mens health mag. showing what percentages girls would rather go after with the typical car with the typical guy.
such as
a guy with a pressed shirt in a BMW
a guy with a cut off shirt in a Camaro
a guy in a sports jersey in a mustang.
They had more but it was just a funny article to read that I thought I would quote.
From my own experience...nothing scientific...my girlfriend during the vette/viper time was not impressed with either vehicle. She would much rather I had a large Merc or Lexus. Then she was over 6 foot in heels. Present girlfriend liked the mustang a lot (her favorite though is a 65 model) when it was bone stock and thinks my modding has gone a bit over the edge. At the same time she does enjoy going to the track and shares my interest in trying to make it a 9 second car.

I agree the Vette is a completely different style of car. I still look forward to the ZR1 coming out and finding that poor rich guy driving it down the road when he pulls up next to my little mustang GT
He'll still run with you AND not lose all the $$ you've got in yours.
Seriously... a 78 Pinto can be modded to spank anything on this board. Gimmie a ZR1. Thanks.
100K ZR1 will retain most of it's value ...
a 60K Mustang will lose 70% of it.
It will also handle better, stop better and more than likely, be more reliable... a warranty is also kinda nice.
Face it, a Mustang, no matter the HP is NOT in the same league. End of story. That being said, beating one (Vette) to the next stoplight would no doubt be fun. Ultimately though, he gets the last laugh.
plus the mustang looks better and is more respected
Really? More "respected"? By who? Mustang owners?
As far as looks go, yup, the Mustang looks great. A C6 Z06 or ZR1? Come on man, take those blinders off, sheez.
I love my Mustang, it's heritage (well, there is a decade or two I wouldn't mind forgetting), but the Vette is THE American sports car. It's been around longer, hold's it value MUCH better, etc., etc.

i wouldnt be planning to sell the mustang unlike if i had a vette, plus why did you chang the argument lol
Humm... keep a Mustang long term, or a Vette long term? Considering resale, that's ass backwards bro. Take a look at the blue book values. Spend a ton to make a Mustang run with a Vette, you'll lose most of it should you sell it, now or later.
The whole point is, trying to compare our cars with even the stock C6 just doesn't make sense on ANY level. With the suspected prices and HP of the new camaro and challenger, looks like they are on a different level as well. We are going to have to argue our Mustangs against cars that cost $12-15,000 more (sticker)?? They are closer to the sticker of a GT500 (let's not even talk about the value of a GT500 vs a modded GT). Too bad they will ALL sell with the insane "Market Adjustment".
At some point in your life, your cars will be less than the most important thing and how much you are willing to lose on them matters. At that point, a Vette actually becomes a much better buy.
Good thing is, soon, we'll be tossing money down the toilet to run with cars that are at least CLOSE to the same market as ours, rather than trying to hang with that old dude in the Corvette.
