Ok today i was going to get vynial stripes put on my GT and got some feedback from a few freinds that have done it in the past. so far everyone is against it. So i called macco and they said that they would PAINT the stripes on for $499. the "sticker stripes" as i like to call them, will cost about 450 including installation. My question is for 50 more should i just get them painted on, and more importantly has anyone ever used macco? are they good? i know the ford dealership quoted me at 1800 to get them painted on so for abou a third of the price can they really be anygood?
I wouldn't trust Maaco to paint anything you actually care about...
Painted stripes should be more than $499. TO do it properly, they need to clear over the stripes so there isn't an obvious seperation between the stock paint and the new stripes.
Personally, the vinyl stripes seem like a better option because it EASILY reversable. If you get tired of painted stripes, it'll cost to go back to 1 color.
I have heard that macco does an awful job when it comes to painting cars. You get what you pay for as far asprice, I personally am happier with my vynal racing stripes as opposed to Maco. If I was however going to paint the stripes on eventually then I will go with a reputable shop, not Macco. Again, you get what you pay for.

I agree totally... If I was going to go painted - I'd want to go where others have gone and I've seen the results... I'm only giving you advice I would heed - which would be to wait until you are in the position to get it done right.... Good luck! Let us know what you decide!

I did a Google for Jacksonville, NC and "I" think these are the kind of people you should talk to and see their work, before making a decision who is going to do it. Also, ask someone who has had stripes put on their car. It will take a little time, but you will be looking at them for a l o n g time.

They essentially cut costs by using extremely cheap quality paint, cut corners on prep, and use what THEY call an "integrated clearcoat" (which essentially defies the entire purpose of clear coating)...
Ever see a car with painted mufflers, rubber trim, doorlocks, etc? ...probbaly a Maaco job. The paint usually has an absurd amount of orange peel, chips within 2 seasons, and fades within 3 seasons.
Their entire business model is satisfying folks with crappo mid-80s cars that still manage to choke down the highway spewing smoke for 200 yards....

Hey Penguin, what about those 80`s cars? Allot of us still have them, us 5.0 guys have allot of pride in our cars. Just because we can`t afford a new one, does not mean ours are junk! As far as Macco, no I don`t recommend them to anyone. Maybe we need more enforcement for those new 2008 car drivers, zero tolerance!

Come on, you KNOW what I'm talking about... Don't give me that crap!
The car I miss more than all was my 1988 Notch... Hell, my email addy still has "notch" in it.
I love Fox bodies the much as the next guy, and I'd still buy a clean chasis if I could find a good one nearby. I'm referring to the Olds hoopties and 3rd Gen Chimaros! LOL
Ok , Penguin just making sure, you live Jersey I was going to have the Soprano boys go over and whack you. But instead if you need some body work, or trash removed let me know!

Maaco doesn't use quality paints.I know. There has to be plenty of body shops in your area.Go shopping and find the best price and check out some their finished cars. They usually bring them out at the end of the day when people get off work.
I have vinyl stripes that the dealership had installed to give it more of showy look.
Pro's:
-Got them for ***FREE*** (custom model = dealership pays interest while it is on the lot = wanting to get it off the lot asap after it doesn't sell for a while)
-Don't seem like they will come unstuck any time soon
-Cheaper than (QUALITY) paint stripes
-Give a place for me to touch/lean on/close the trunk without scratching or fingerprinting the paint (big deal with black paint)
-More resistant to abrasive forces than if they were painted
Con's:
-I would assume they would be hard to put on by yourself if you want to go that route
-They aren't flush with paint, slight bump
-Don't have the same mirror shine as the surrounding paint
-Depending on where you live, rock damage can be a problem. If a rock hits it, it can puncture the stripe and expose the underlying paint (big contrast between white stripes and black paint!)
-With any stripes: if you want to get a different hood, spoiler, have body damage, etc., you have to get the new parts striped to match the rest of the car (width, color, distance from center, etc.)
Just my experience with my stripes over the past six months.

I wouldnt paint them on. If you do spend the money to get it done right. Mako would just paint over your all ready painted paint job probably lol and you would have striped that looked like oranges...
Finally in there defence we took an older early 80's Branco there to get painted but it was just the shell and it turned out really good of course they had not thing to tape of just spray the crap out of it and it turned out nice
My step son went there to have his Blazer repainted (Wanted changed color, on a 3 yo truck) and had stripes painted. Against my recommendations, he chose there because they were cheapest, and I warned him, you get what you pay for, and you won't be happy.
Not only are they faded, as well as the truck itself (in just under 2 years) the stripes are horrid, they are not fine edges, you can see several areas that masking wasn't tight and the paint seeped under it. They didn't get them straight, or get the hood to the top stripes lined up.
Add to that the extra 6-8 trips after it was done to have them repaint or fix things (They had to redo the hood stripes 2x because they sucked so bad)
I think it cost me an extra 600 to have them painted on my car, through the Ford body shop, but I was also getting the Cervini body kit installed too, so it was minimal extra work so they may not have charged what it would cost to just do stripes.
