Electric Cutouts Finally Finished on 2006 Mustang GT
I finally got my electric cutouts installed! It wasn't too much of a project, but only being able to work on it every other weekend took me some time. Not to mention this is my first exhaust project I've done myself (I do mostly wiring and electrical stuff). Plus I took my time to do everything right. I live in the city in an apartment complex, so I didn't want to install a louder muffler, since it would always be loud, and annoy the neighbors.
The exhaust is comletely stock except for the cutouts, so normal driving sounds just like a stock GT, but just the press of a button and the sound is incredible! For those who can't decide on a muffler, I would suggest looking into cutouts.

How much does that cost? im very interested even though i have a v6 because the sound without a muffler is just absolutely incredible but i now have it muffled with my a/ts and im craving the old sound

If you buy y-pipes to splice in (they make the job much easier), and 2 electric cutouts, it will probably run you around what it costs for a decent set of mufflers. Doing it myself, and getting a good discount on all my parts (perks of formerly working for an auto parts store) saved me a bunch of money.
The y-pipes can be found most anywhere. JEGs and Summitt are a good place to look to parts, or I think they even sell everything needed in a kit.

A cutout is a way to bypass your exhaust system and muffler. This is usually done by putting a y-pipe in your exhaust as close to the headers as possible. And electric butterfly valve can be opened and closed by a switch. When open, the exhaust exits right after the headers. When closed, the exhaust travels through your entire exhaust system, just like normal. It helps the car breath a little better, but mainly it makes a lot of noise since the exhaust comes out before the mufflers. It's like driving with open headers.
