Ive just been wondering, mainly because there are alot of jobs being lost and my family business isnt doing so hot now either.. What are our stangs worth if we had to sell?? And my stang will be the last thing I let go!!! I know that many are bringing around 22K still. but ive got close to 40K invested in mine. And i dont wanna sell, but if it comes down to that i dont wanna let it go for 20K or even 25. I know ima loose alot but i dont wanna loose 20K worth of parts, and I sure as heck dotn wanna put it back to stock! AT ALL! Any one else had any similar thoghts?

I hear ya man, i agree the best thing to do would be to get your car back to stock, at least close to it, and sell the parts on the internet or something. Then sell the car, this would be the way to make the most money back. And btw, nice list of mods ya got there, i bet it hauls.

I sold my 2002 GT vert with all mods and got more than blue book for an A condition car. My car was probably in B+/B condition. I gave the new buyer the OEM parts. Although, I did not invest 40K.

I got offered 60k for mine the other day from a guy who was checking it out at the shop but even though I could go buy a new GT500 for that, I love my car WAY to much and have put WAY to much work and time into to ever let it go. To me it would be like putting my first child up for sale.
One of the main reasons why he was willing to pay that much though was because he wanted a custom car but did not want to wait a year to build it. Any one who has fully built a custom car should know it takes FOREVER my car I think has close to a year or in the shop, between waiting for parts and waiting for slots to open for tuning and for in the paint shop.
What it all comes down to it is I would live in my car before I had to sale it
Like R3dF1r3 said, you'll get next to nothing for the mods and most car buyers prefer buying an unmodded vehicle (especially engine and performance mods) because they don't know if the previous owner knew what he was doing or Mickey Moused it. The S197 mustangs lose about $6000 the first year and about $1500-$1800 every year after that in value if you sell it privately. If you just take it to a car lot and say I want to get rid of it, you'll get a lot less.

all of the money that i put into mods on my car, i expect zero value of return in the form of currency. The return that i get is joy and excitement from seeing a new part installed, improving upon an already magnificent vehicle.

Your going to lose regardless. You'll recoup some money if you find the right buyer, but they need to have an understanding of the car and it's mods or they will show you a printout from Edmunds that says it's worth this and this is what they will pay you. Luckily, mine is paid off, so it is an asset now, rather than a liability. Even with gas prices as they are.
Your car is worth exactly what the check payed to you says it is.
T
EXACTLY, and if you are in a forced sale situation, it probably won't be what you want. The OP understands that the economy is in a downturn and states that the family business is affected. Well?? That also affects the automobile market as well

thats what I was expecting from everyone. lol I have had 2 offers on the car 28K from one guy and 30K from another. But i agree ill live in it before i sell it. I to have way to much work and time in it to just let it go. To me the only way your going to get anything close to what you have in the car is if someone is looking for a hopd up car.. I had a simialr situation happen to me a few years back with a racing quad of mine I had 20K in it and sold for 5 then 2 days later I got a call with a 15K offer.. Its just luck of the draw, buyer, seller, or whatever else lol

I learned long ago, cars (except for exotic and classic collectors) are a losing investment.
I have purchased 9 or 10 brand new cars in my life since graduating from college.
I always lost my arse.
The one car I made on; Frame off resto triple black 1967 Dart GT with 273 bored 4bbl, vert, faster than snot for old school muscle. It was almost concourse.
Bought for $6k and sold 9 years later for $14k. Put about $2k into it. I'd think it'd be a $18k car or more today.

If your Stang isn't a Bullet, Shelby, Roush, Saleen, Steeda, Foose or Special edition, then it's worth less than what ya paid for it. No matter what you have done to the car, it's still a v6 pony or a GT. Unless, like said above, someone is willing to pay for the upgrades.

I think you will loose money on the SE cars, too. None of the new cars today will be worth as much as the older ones. New Mustangs are for fun, not investment.
