After reading everyone's opinions, which really matched my own for the most part, I was ready to wave goodbye to this thread and never think about stripes again.
But then when ksmithey put a nice subtle stripe like that on the car....well it's kind of making me re-think...
It looks pretty good but for the money and time you'll spend doing it, I'd definitely go with zing mod vice a bling mod. I'm about done w/ mine and am starting to do suspension stuff. You're car tho...
Hey Fuzzy, I went throough the same thing...to stripe or not to stripe. I originally wanted the clean look of all black. Then I got my hood and went for it. I even tried something a little different by only striping the hood at first. I had that design for 6 months or so before I decided to stripe the rear too. There is a silver (sorry not sure the exact color) vert with black stripes in a similar design to what I originally had (same hood and stripes on hood only) that I have seen here on AFM.
I agree, stripes can look odd on a vert. I specifically did NOT want the stripes over the top on my vert, hence why there are no stripes on my whindshield header. Additionally, as many of you have noticed, my stripes are unique....first, they are a custom color to match the interior as clsoe as possible. Second they do not go from bottom of front bumper to bottom or rear bumper. Instead, they go from the back edge of the air vents tot he edge of the hood, then from the start of the rear dect to the very tip of the ducktail spoiler. Now with that said, I do think your vert is rather impressive the way it is w/o stripes. Although, if stripes were an option, silver is the only way to go on your color scheme...and the ghost flames (or just metalic silver) would be impressive.
Ironically, I am now confused.....everyone has always said how nice my car looks, now I find out that the majority of folks (except for GaryPaul and myltlpny) do not like stripes on verts...so now I am curious if my car really does look good, or were you all just being nice so I dont cry (from the expense and aggrevation of getting those stripes)?...lol
By the way myltlpny, yes the house is keeping me a bit busy. Yes, I have dumped $50K (it probably would be more if I actually had to pay for all the labor involved) into the house over the last month, with another $25K-$35K+ more in the next couple months. However, I still drop by here occassionally to see how things are going.
I have been so busy with the house, work and traveling that I have not even given my Stang a decent batch (or a bath at all for that matter) since December. Although, after this house remodel, that dog-gone supercharger is looking better and better.

Eric....take a look at those ghost stripes ksmithey photoshopped onto the picture of my car in an earlier post. I was all set to abandon the stripe idea until I saw what that could look like. Very subtle on that stripe and it really does look pretty cool.....
Your car is unique.....I'm not sure I even consider your car as having stripes in the classic sense. So I think most people see your car as way different than the "classic" LeMans type racing stripes on a vert.
But the more I look at that photoshopped picture and see the subtlety of those dark grayish type stripes....the more I like it....
Hey Fuzzy, I think ghost stripes would look good on your vert...the fact that your car/top are black helps for a smooth transition which makes it work. But that's just my opinion.
I'm glad you liked the photoshop version!

I would go for a duck tail spoiler instead of the stripe. Your vert would really benefit from the duck tail I think.

I say get em, they're only vinyl and can be removed fairly easily if you get tired of them which you most likely will not.
To stripe or not to stripe is an important question with a car like ours. When I first when looking in 2005, I wanted one all black inside and out with no stripes, no accents, no spoiler, just all black. When I found my car, it had white side stripes on it and I specifically remember saying at the dealer "those stripes have to go. After I buy it i'll take them off."
Now I look at other black stangs that dont have the side stripes and they look naked. I've toyed with the idea of 10" white racing stripes but can't get over how naked my sides would look without my side stripes so...
When I get my racing stripes, i'm keeping the side stripes. I think that side stripes and racing stripes together are simple enough that they wont look too cheesy, but at the same time they're enough to give it a real aggressive look.

FD,
I know what you mean, you steer and steer, for a different look. So 2 weeks ago, i was bored and called up graphic-express and ordered boss stripes, drove up and picked them up at their place of business.
I have not posted it, but here is what it looks like.
I kept the black and red theme.

Looks mighty fine my friend....but according to many of the folks here, apparently verts should not have stripes at all....so I guess you and I are unique. Anyways, looks real good, nice job.

Thanks for the compliment, Mr V. I would say it looks good either way, but I was toying with this for over a year, and was just bored one day and ordered them.
My stripes are on the hood and sides only, and my objective is to have my car different then my gf's coupe which has the racing stripes front to back, just like the side scoops are different on both cars.
Your front to back stripes looks great and comps your seats with the top down, and i think that is the trick or objective to acchieve.
My black stripes go hand in hand with my cloth top up, and that is what I wanted to achieve, by I have not dropped the top to see the effects with the Boss Stripes and seats yet. But I am sure it will look great having the hard tonneau, and charcoal light bar.

I am thinking the effect will be rather impressive....the Boss stripes in conjunction with the charcoal light bar....just the right touch.
Originally, I was considering similar stripes to yours. Picture a mix between what you have and Foose stripes....basically my hood stripes with the Boss stripe (like yours)....but in the end went with the current design.
Just prooves that Verts can and do look fabulous with (or without) stripes.....everyone else is just jealous that they do not have a vert.

Make.....see at first I think I remember me saying to you that you should not put stripes on your car. But I think that looks really sweet. I think it goes perfectly with the black cloth top.
Of course it's making me think about those "ghost" stripes even more since ksmithey photoshopped onto the picture of my car....so thanks a lot....lol. Did you check out what he did to those pictures ? I think it looks very cool....
