While washing my LL car yesterday, I realized that my exhaust tip on the passenger's side where it was hit is pushed in. The tip is fine--there's no damage to it that I can see, but it doesn't stick out nearly as far as the other one.
I'm waiting for body shop guy to call me back as we speak to see when he'd like it back...
After I had my cats replaced, a few months back, I noticed that one of my exhaust tips was sticking out nearly 2 inches further than the other one. I took it back to them the same day and they re-aligned it in a matter of minutes. Real simple fix, hopefully the same goes for you.
That's a simple fix. Just have to loosen the passenger overaxle pipe at the H and gently pull on the exhaust tip until the entire assembly moves out a bit. Then retighten.
Most likely if it was a rear end hit, the over the axle pipe is bent at the "arch" now.
If it's stock exhaust, there should be no adjustment, there are pin, nothces and tabs to locate eveything.
Don't want to be the bearer of bad news, but if you need an over the axle pipe, don't let them cheat you out of it.
Trust me on this...my new pipe is out in the garage waiting to go on. My pipe went about 4" under the rear bumper when it backed into the wall at 40mph. Nothing from the axle forward moved, as the notches won't slide over the pins, but the over the axle pipe has a nice kink in it.
Not making my buddy the body man do it, as I have to pull down the rear end anyhow for my gear swap.

Reason: pins

Agree but those midpipe slip clamps do sometimes allow the pipe to slide.

I'm dropping her off this afternoon and body shop guy is going to have her taken to the muffler shop tomorrow.
Don't settle for anything less than an OEM pipe.
It is only $77 their cost (dealer + 10%).

Yes, they do. That is why mine is tacked once it was right.
But the OEM stuff shouldn't be able to slide forward farther than the pin in the H pipe. The U slot in the over the axle pipe would have to go over the top of it or split open.
Now one side sliding back father than the other is very common with those band clamps. But that was Ford's intended design, ease of disassembly. I went to the SAE dinner for the S197 and Bill Ford Jr. himself said they intentionally designed the exhaust system to be able to be modified quickly and easily by the consumer. Mainly the muffler replacement
At least they at some foresight in the design for mods
