Default Rattling Door.... Help needed....

I noticed that on my convertible, I get a rattle when going over manhole covers and bumps in the road if the window three quarters of the way to all the way down. If the window is down and I open the door, and then sort of hit the plastic panel, you hear a rattle, and closing the door it exhibits a rattle also. This is the driver's side door, the passenger side door is quiet and does not have any of the symptoms that the driver's door has, and is very quiet when you close it.. unlike the driver's side door, which as I mentioned rattles when you close it and the window is down...

Does anyone have any thoughts on this... the car is a 2007 and has about 17,000 miles on it. I am the second owner and I am not sure if this is covered by Warranty, or if I should just remove the trim panel and investigate what is going on myself.

Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated...
Dave

My first guess would be the door stoppers. I have seen people that have had to slam '96 cars and also those who could brush against '60's cars and they shut. Do you have to slam your doors shut?

I have the same problem, on my convert. I think it because the driver door, opens and closed more. Also you may want to check to see if the glass is what getting loose. That is my next stop. I also had the door lock acuator come off. So there are things I can think of. But I will probably get my window check and tightened.

Topnycdog....
Maybe it is symptomatic of the convertible to have a rattling driver's side door.... I notice sometimes it rattles and sometimes it does not..... but it is most definitely related to the window and the hardware as it goes away when you lower the window to three quarter's open and more.

I was thinking of opening it up myself and have a look see.. the only thing is dealing with the door opener and the switches.... I have the Haynes book but it is wrong with the door latch... might be correct on a 2005... It shows a screw that you remove, my 2007 has no such screw. I will have to check out my girlfriends 2005 and see if hers has a screw in that opening latch assembly ....

The door closes very easy and it is not door related... most definitely window related... just don't want the window breaking on me... LOL.

Thanks for the input and comments.

I called my Ford dealer today and they said that things like the rattle in the door are covered under the three year or thirty six thousand mile warranty. I will reflash the computer back to stock tune before taking it in ... LOL.. don't want to tempt fate....

They will fix it in a couple of weeks..... and I will advise what they found.. maybe a wrench left in the door... who knows...

I have a rattle on my driver's side door and just yesterday finally figured it out- it's the rear view mirror. If I put my hand on the top of the plastic housing covering the mirror, the rattle stops. I haven't had to time to take the thing apart to see if I can fix it, but hopefully it will be something obvious.

DrJeff....

My rattle is coming at the rear of the door towards the latch side at the bottom. It sounds like the window track is loose and I can make it rattle with the window down and the door open by hitting the inside of the door .... It looks like too much trouble to take the trim apart so I was very happy to find out it was still covered under the warranty.

Your rattle is different and might be easier to fix. If mine was coming from the mirror I would problably tackle it myself.... by going inside the door is a bit trickier... and if the track is broken that is a major pain... and I am sure they would have to order a new track.

I will advise more after the car goes in for service on Aug 23...

Good luck with eliminating your rattle...
Dave

my window was broken, and it is not a ford window anymore. so they will not cover me. that is why they say at time my car been in accident because of difference of windows.

Default Final Update...

I took my car to the Dealer yesterday for the rattling door problem since it is still under warranty. It took them about an hour or so and when the car was done they said it was the screws in the regulator coming loose, so they applied lock tite and tightened them. All is fine now.

The Service Writer told me this has been a pretty common problem with the convertibles....

I am now a happy rattle free Mustang Driver....

Take Care all.... On to my next modification...
