Default Cool hood mod....keeps engine bay clean !

If any of you out there are "clean freaks" like me, then you may want to do this mod. Ever since I installed my polished Supercharger it been a pain in the rear to keep road water/dirt off the housing assembly which enters through the front hood opening between the front grill and bottom side of front hood edge. This water/dirt rests all over the front area of the engine, power steering, rad. over tank etc.. If you were look towards the rear of your hood (near wipers) you will see a weather strip seal that attaches Via "push pins" to pre-drilled holes in the hood. Go to your local Ford dealer and order this seal (22.00) remove the "push pins" and then apply 1/2 inch double sided automotive tape (3M) 38.00 a roll. Now open your hood and apply seal to underside of the front edge of the hood. If you look to either side of the underside of the hood you will see (left/right) "rolled" edges where the top side hood skin is "folded/rolled" over. Start at either area where its folded/rolled over and work your way to the other side, once completed the seal is perfectly alig. with the center of the hood. When hood is closed its forms a tight seal between the underside of the hood and the top side of the grill assembly perventing the water/dirt from getting into the engine bay..........

Good idea. And I think it will force all the air to go through the radiator instead of bypassing it over the top.

Would that trap more heat under the hood, making the air hotter that is being sucked in by a CAI? Just a thought, not sure if that would be the case or not.
Thanks for the info/idea.

I went out last night to test your idea, and guess what its does. I drove on rt. 60 two lane at 60-70 mph and passed at least 10 semi trucks at the same speed (approx.) and the shake was at 75% less. I then got on I-4 (70 mph speed limit) and took it to 90-110 mph and the same thing happened, at least 75% less shake/lift...........sooooooooooo I think your on to something.

Thanks for the info/idea.
Air is drawn out through the bottom of your engine bay once it enters through the rad. assembly. A vacum condition exists when the car is moving foreward. Should have no effect on hotter under hood temps. If anything it should improve the amount of air exiting the engine bay.

Didn't change mine a bit and I did your mod about a year ago. Hood was so tight it could barely be closed, still danced like crazy at high speeds.

No war around it. To keep the hood from shaking the air needs to be exhausted into a high pressure zone on top of the hood. Or you put a very low splitter on the front of the car which will create a vacuum under the engine compartment and the air may go out there.

Maybe thats why I have less shake now too. I did install the GT 500 air splitter and now with the seal its much less than before.
Its a combo thing I guess?????????
Did you use the same seal as I did, my hood closes fine??? The seal has a open area between the top of seal and base, once the hood is closed it smashes down to approx. 1/8 inch makes a nice seal with no hood closing issues (at least on mine).

The Ford part number is: 4R3Z-16740-AA rear hood seal. The plastic push pins are installed in the above part, so no part number is needed. Remove push pins from seal prior to installing.
