Default Where does the drive shaft fail?

My brother and I were looking at aluminum drive shafts and videos of the stock drive shafts failing when my brother asked something I hadn't ever thought of. Where does the drive shaft fail? I can't remember the names of the parts he listed (I know nothing about cars he's a mechanic) that He felt would be weak spots in a 2 piece drive shaft. If only one or two parts of the drive shaft are weak, wouldn't be cheaper just to replace those parts?

On a single DS it will more likely fail on the tranny end, and either flip you car over, or destroy the bottom of your car. I've never had the stock DS, but I would think the weak spots are at the joints.

Logically speaking, it would be cheaper to replace those parts, but if the shaft fails while you are driving, there will be a lot more to replace than just those parts. It will be very messy. Make sure you have a driveshaft loop or things may not turn out well for you.

There was a member awhile back who had a one piece shaft fail on him and it caused a ton of damage to his car. Wonder what happened to him.....

These pics are from CHE's website:

Correct. They fail at the splined connection.

The big advantage to the one piece is that it is so much lighter. I really noticed a difference in my GT. It took a little less than 4/10ths off my 1/4 mile time.

The lightweight one weighs about half as much and is about twice as strong.
