Default Lets talk about rear brakes

I have a question here and it may sound dumb but stay with me. So the rear brakes are a lot smaller than the front brakes, obviously. This is because the front brakes do what like 90% of the stopping power?

But my question to you all is, can a set of GT front brakes, fit on the rears? My rear brakes just look kinda puny and are going to look even worse when i get my rims this spring. i mean, i don't have to worry about clearance because i know the brakes fit because they came with the car after all But is there some kind of compatibility issue or is it feasible? because i bet i could find a set pretty cheap since they are stock parts. And heck, my car will brake a little better too

It can be done but it's not a direct bolt on.

Darn... i was hoping it would be. Are there some decent Aftermarket brakes for the rears out there?

I remember reading some where someone made brackets to mount front brakes on the back and also use the back brakes but with the front rotors.

That is what needs to be changed. The larger discs will fit with no mods. But you won't be able to mount the calipers because the mounts are too close to the axle centerline.

Doing that would throw your breaking ability out of whack, Unless you plan on making your front brakes bigger. The most weight is up front hence the larger disc but the rear is proportionately smaller so you get "even" braking.

I know what you mean about the rear brakes looking wimpy and most of the after market brake kits just give you better pads for the stock rears but there are larger rear available out there.

That is also true. Without also improving the front brakes you will have stronger rear brakes that will want to lock up easily, especially when the weight transfers during hard braking. I don't know how the ABS will work in that case. You may need to put a brake bias valve in the system to get proportional braking.

Just not as easy as it first seems.

If a Stock GT front rotor (12"+) worked well in the rear with a 14" Big Brake kit, i think the Aftermarket guys would have offered a Front to Rear "Relocation" kit by now, as an up $ale.

Maybe it just doesn't work as well at that larger size cause thers not enough weight in the rear of the car to justify the rotor swap engineering.

But, the GT500 KR does have 14" Front, 13" Rear
