The doofus who suggested a V8 might be right; however, he needs to learn to think a little before he starts unzipping his fly.

I have a 2006 V6 auto convertible, straight off the Budget Rent-a-Car lot. It was well-maintained and in essentially perfect mechanical shape. Only obvious effect from its rental history was: superficial scratches on the paint (swirls - those lot kids don't got no respect; neither do the renters who rest their suitcases on the trunk lid). By superficial, I mean they are coming out, little by little, as I claybar, polish, and wax it from time to time. Otherwise, it was a 12,000-mile old "new" car at a substantial discount.

I've neglected to take my own advice and consider carefully the OP's idea of useful modifications. For my part, I've done almost exclusively "handling" changes. Springs, adjustable struts/shocks, sway bars, wheels and tires. If I had got the car for my wife, when the original 16x7 tires were used up and ready for replacement, I'd have gone for the GT 17x8 takeoffs. For $500-700 dollars you get essentially new tires, better roadworthiness, and nice-looking wheels.

Next, the shocks. Anyone's standard Mustang aftermarket items will be worthwhile on a 12,000-mile plus car.

Wouldn't get the springs, as they lower the car (make it look good) but increase ride harshness a bit, maybe too much for a non-enthusiast.

And the GT takeoff anti-sway bars, "stabilizers" as Ford calls them. They do that - stabilize things - in transitions from straight to curved-line travel. Confidence-inspiring, and a safety plus.

Otherwise, the V6 automatic car is a fine vehicle, for women, men, boys and girls, and contrary to some pre-adolescents' fantasies, offer as much performance as anyone needs.

Of course if your wife is like me in one respect, the mildly modded V6 you see described above will not be enough, if she gets the bug, which is always a danger!

Unless it was or becomes an abused car, you'll be very pleased with the V6 Mustang automatic, for many, many miles to come.

Cheers!

I WISH they never put v6's in mustangs to be completely honest. I have v6 drivers daily bullshitting about their cars and i always see riced out ones that kids try to race in. It makes mustang drivers look bad.I mean for women.. V6's are good. But ive seen some girls drive their V8 stangs better than some guys. And I feel the same about automatics. Some might call it ignorance. Others call it pride..

Tell that to my buddy with the '98 GT who I have beat in the 1/4 plenty of times.

And don't even get me started on the automatic thing; with a tune they shift as hard and have more consistant ET's than 95% of manually-shifted vehicles. Standard transmissions are just more fun to drive.

The last time we raced we had both just added an intake and tune. I beat him that time and I beat him when we raced stock for stock as well.

Now i've got exhaust and gears as well as a short throw.

Well, we purchased a 2006 V-6 last August. We could have bought A-N-Y Mustang on the lot, new or used.

I picked the car out for us, because it W-A-S a V-6, with 14,000 miles. The reason was this. My 15 year old son will soon be driving, and we didn't want him in a V-8. (If we are all honest, we used to ALL spin the tires, and do stupid stuff at that age. AND, yes, the V-6 will spin the tires, etc.) The other thing was the insurance factor. The GT for a young driver was N-O-T financially feasiable for him/us. The personal property taxes on a GT was considerably more.

SO, for us, the V-6 was a good choice. We got the basic pony.

The gas mileage for the V-6, has ranged from 27mpg, to 30.4 mpg on th highway.

AND, it is an automatic !!!!!!!

We replaced the original BF Goodrich tires with some COOPER CS4 Touring tires, and they seem to be working out really well.

There was a TSB out when I first found this board, concerning the "lumber rattle sound", we took it to the local FORD dealer, and it was fixed the next day.

The only other issue with it, was an annoying "rattle" that we thought was coming from the dash area, but turned out to be a broken clip in the plastic trim piece that goes over the top of the passenger side door glass. Fixed under warranty.

Life is about choices, and we all have the right to choose what we want/like.

What is next, to be chastised for picking a color that someone doesn't like ??

Get over yourself !!!!!!!!!!!

P.S. Have the car checked out, if it is o.k., than I hope that it all works out for you. REMEMBER, if mama's happy, ...... daddy is happy !!!!!!!

GO FOR IT!! the tranny on the v6 is the came as the GT so it can easily handle the 4.0. the only problem i had when i first bought mine was that the battery kept dying. i bought mine new and i later found out that the car i bought had just been sitting in the back of their lot for about five months so the battery died out on its own but the dealership replaced it for free. the v6 is a great daily driver and i havent had any prblems except the battery when i first got it. if your looking for a TON of info you can look at this link: http://www.listangs.com/2005mustang_specs.pdf hope you and your wife enjoy the car

Nothing wrong with a V6 if it makes the purchaser happy.
More Mustangs on the road have a V6 than a V8.
If not for the V6, we'd not have the Mustang to begin with.

Honestly, I'd drive one with as much pride as I do my GT.
Furthermore, I'm LOVING the V6 Ecotech twin turbo idea in the Mustang for the future.

Today's V6 is almost as powerful as my 93 Cobra!

There was a guy in Tampa with a nice red 93 Cobra that I met.
I really did not like the guy, and basically started ignoring him after 3 minutes.

He did nothing but trash talk other Mustangs, and literally worshipped vettes. You can imagine, this did not go well at the Mustang meets.

It especially offended me, I happen to worship Mustangs. I care not if they are the fastest, or if they are not an alternative to viagra for impotent middle aged men.

I love Mustangs. All of them. V6's past and present included.
