Okay, I am tired of waiting for these back-ordered non-existent shifters. Anyone have access to a nice machine shop? I have an idea for you and I have done all the disassembling.
I purchased a new 2005 shifter and took it apart to get the shift gate out of it. If someone with a machine shop worth its weight in salt wants to measure it and see if they can make a shift gate to use the stock shifter I will be willing to help. I have taken pictures of it to see if you want to touch this project.
The gate is small and I have attached pictures of each side. If you want specifics, let me know and I can dig out a digital micrometer.
The bearing housing is on the Driver's Side of the shifter. On each end of the Bearing housing is a tab sticking out, this is just to keep wires out of the way. The notches on the top is for a spring loaded roller so you can feel the gears. It has some thick grease on it in the pictures.
The Pass Side pic is obviously a view from the passenger side. The very right side has a small white chalk mark, that is park. To the right of that is two clips and two locating pins for the starter inhibitor switch (?). The largest notch is obviously Drive. To the left of it is one long "notch" that includes 1-2-3 with nothing between them. If you look at the plastic above the notches, you will see three "X" shapes in the molding. The two on the right are where the shift gate is. To the left there is one additional "notch" and that is strictly a stop for 1st gear.
If you need any thing measured, I have the entire shifter (apart) so I can measure the bearings. The shifter should not be too hard to modify and the only thing I see that may be a problem is that the gate will need to be a double sided gate. Anyone interested, PM me and I can take more pics, measure, and discuss all this.
Now, who wants a stealthy factory shifter with stop gates for each gear? Line forms to the left.
I would like to hear from others about what they see that I may have missed or open to ideas. I want this to be a group thing since I know of so many that want some control of the shifter. I am thinking of talking to Cheetah Shifters in Jax, FL and see if they can do something. They use the same type plastic in their race shifters.
So basically you want to try and make a shift kit?

I have given this some thought and do not feel this would be a workable solution. I would rather tap into the control module and install a paddle type shifter that would have a isolator switch to between full auto and manumatic mode. I alas am not that smart.
If we can. You can use the tuner to increase line pressures. You can make it shift as hard as you want. Now we can build a gate to limit shifter movement to one click at a time.
Hold the button in from 1 -> 2
Let out the button for 2 -> 3
Hold button 3 -> D
That way, you don't go to N since the gate is shaped the way it is.
This is why I put up the pics and such. Maybe get some people in here talking, and discussing, better ways to do things. Maybe make the world a better place. That sort of thing. And we Clutch Delete folks can have some nice shifters like the 5 speeders do.

The 5 speed guys have like 10 shifters to choose from. The clutch delete registry has the stock and nothing but the stock.

Yeah, I was looking into putting a regular ratchet shifter in it and just put a small switch on the base for O/D. But the shifter is a reverse shift. When you pull the shifter back, the cables is pulled back. Old style shifters, you pull the shifter back and the cable is pushed forward.
I really don't see why they are having such a problem with designing a shifter that will work. I don't see any special sensors, or anything on it. The O/D switch can be moved to the trim on the console. The Neutral switch is a neutral switch. There is the brake light lock-out, but those are easy to defeat unless it is a two way system (which I doubt).
I am starting to think that maybe Cheetah at Turbo Action in Jax may be worth a visit or at least a call.
After talking on the phone with a technician, they are very interested in this idea. They may be able to make a shifter gate for our shifters if the shifter turns out to be electronic.
When I reassembled the shifter, the bottom of the shifter handle pivots on a metal pin. That metal pin seems to sit in what looks like a wrapped wire coil, may be some type of magnetic field. But I have no clue what that could possibly have to do with shifting gears.
At the least, we will be looking at maybe getting shift gates for our factory shifters. I think they would in the least work like the old ProStick.
Anyway, I will keep this thread updated until we get to a stopping point or we have a shifter. Keep your fingers crossed.

I've got my fingers, toes and legs crossed hoping for good news.
Here is one of my many shifter rants & raves http://www.allfordmustangs.com/forum...er-please.html
and I am still waiting for a quality shifter. Something that says I'm a quality product every time you touch it, something that will ratchet, something that has no surprise neutrals and something that feels attached to metal not squeaky cheep brittle plastic. Maybe it will never happen but I cannot believe that the car with a million aftermarket accessories has no shifter.

First update. Cheetah's tech is looking at the shifter and says he is gonna try to see what he can do. He is looking it over for ideas on wires and switches.
He said he has a switch for line lock that can be used already for the O/D he thinks. He just got familiar with it, he is now starting the thinking stages. He thinks that maybe the shifter can be used with the stock bezel surrounds and such with his shifter up through the middle. He says that it is looking very promising right now. Maybe put the manual shifter boot over it like another AFM poster has?
Readers of this post, how about replying if you are interested. That way when I call and check in again, I can give him some numbers on people interested. Also what would a decent price be for it? This way he can gauge people's wants and prices and get an idea on if it is worth it.
Input on ideas in design as well.
Want replaceable t-handle? (Not sure if Cheetah does this)
Want O/D button on handle or on the base of the shifter?
Want ratchet or gate style shift?
Want thumb control, d-ring control, or trigger controls? (not that familiar with Cheetah)
Black or chrome? (I don't think Cheetah makes chrome)
I am down for one. Since I have gone this far, I guess I BETTER order one.
Will update as I get stuff. And Snake, keep your fingers and toes crossed. If you keep crossing your legs people will start pointing you to a bathroom.
The TCI StreetFighter seems to have the right idea. A Beefy Chrome plated Ratchet shifter with Reverse lockout, OD button on the handle

I know nothing about aftermarket shift kits like this. I guess i will cast my vote for the best one
