You can downshift manually with an automatic, I don't see how you can lose? Theres nothing more to an auto than just flooring it and shifting if you feel like it through the 1, 2, and 3 labeled on your shifter and you can turn off 5th gear by pushing in the O/D Off button in.
Also please be a little more specific in your post and type your words together a little more clear.
What kind of car do you drive and what car were you racing?

I think "driver mod" is the correct answer: with the automatic you can do the same as the stick guys. You just have to learn to get into the right gear at the right time. The automatic's brain is good, but in the kind of circumstance you mention, you need to do the first part find out what is the fat part of your torque curve at 40 MPH, make sure that's where you are when it's time to give it full throttle, then shift to Drive with your accelerator foot on the floor.

Can you give us some more info? (And maybe a translator?) Why are they beating you? Are you spinning? Not in the power band? Reaction time? Boost lag? What mods? What car beat you? A race isn't between two cars, it is between two drivers. A good driver with less hp will beat a bad driver with more hp. Not only hp, but suspension is a factor.

Can't stand to look at yourself without whining? Make up your mind: are you for or against legitimate criticism (as opposed to cheap shots at the expense of the less fortunate)?
My self image includes a realistic assessment of my obligation to suggest to would-be bullies that they apply the Golden Rule. You're right in that I imputed an unverifiable "need", but I think there was at least some evidence to support the inference.
Tell me again how it is OK to have made disparaging remarks about someone's language skills? What is it about "writing with an accent" that is offensive to you? What is it about your remark that does not support my point? A funny, offensive joke is still offensive.
While you're awake and alert, look up "dissemble". (It really saved me a lot of time when some kind soul showed me the dictionary words are in "alphabetical order"!)
