Default Shopping for a 2008+ GT 5 speed convertible... advice on prices?

I have done some research into my next car. I've narrowed down that I want a 2008 or 2009 GT 5 speed convertible. From the looks of things, there are a lot of new 2008 models still in stock, and a few within an 8 hour drive of me.

The main reason for wanting the 08-09 is that I will either get the car with the navigation radio or add this later. I have read this install is easiest on the 08-09 model. I do not have to buy new, but have seen what appear to be really good prices on them with employee pricing.

I have found a used 2008 model loaded (it has the nav & most of the options from what I can tell) w/ 5K miles for an asking price of $27,500. I can tell from the ad posting it has been FS since at least October, and it looks like the dealer bought it in September. The salesman said it was a local car that was traded on a Saleen. I did run it on cars.com and edminds (don't like KBB), and it is within $1~2K of their prices depending on the condition.

I figure those in the know are here, so figuring a clean title history, how does this price stack up? I browse ebay, cars.com, Autotrader, and Vehix.com as well as the dealer websites.

It looks like I can get a new 2009 GT Premium w/o all the toys but with a few options for around $32K. The new 2008 models are a little less than that.

As for future plans, I like the concept of the Edelbrock supercharger and would also like to have a 6 speed transmission. This would come into play a while down the road.

Sticker on my car was 38,8. Certified Pre-owned. I found it on autotrader. It had 600 miles on it. It was won in a Casino. Winner drove it home to Easton, PA. Traded it in 2 weeks later for a F-series. It sat in the showroom for 3 months. I found it in early august, and I was the only phone call they received about it. I offered 26k over the phone. They told me I wasn't even in the ball park. They wanted 33K.
On Aug 29th, a friday Night I dragged my wife and 3 kids on a 2 hour car ride to see it. My wife had no interest in a Mustang, I was previously looking for an orange one that could shoot flames. When my wife saw this one, I could see and hear her melt a little.

Here's what you want to know. That night, I never spoke of price with the manager but I told them I drove 2 hours and all that stuff. I met all the internet people I had been talking to. The manager finally broke and said the absolute minimum 28,5. I looked and sounded disappointed and took my family home. First thing the next morning I told them 28k and my Dad was on his way to pick me up to go get the car. They said Deal.

This was before the market really took a dump. Now, who knows what these things are selling for. I was trying to attach my sticker but I cant seem to find the scan I have.

Great reply, thank you. I've found a couple of blue 2009 ones that are "employee" priced at around $32K from MSRPs around what yours was- $37~38K. I'll have to give your strategy a try- don't know how flexible they are on new vs used.

I grant you are not looking for an '05-'07, but you may be able to use this info as a bargaining chip. You can pick up an '05 or '06 GT vert with low mileage (sometimes significantly less than 10K or even 5K) for less than $20K. this might help with negotiations.

I would not mind an older car w/ low miles, but for what I want to do it appears the 08+ is less headache & more likely to be a success.

I've found several Vista Blue/Charcoal 08-09 models in west Florida & plan on going to look at them.

I bought my 2007 Gt Vert 5 spd with 7k miles, it was only 10 months old. I was taking my time and searching for many months, i finally found a Contractor on Craigs List who was facing hard times and bought the car when biz was still good. He wanted $30k, i offered $24k, he said $29k the lowest, i told him there are many Stangs on the Market and the economy sux so no one is buying, give me a call if you reconsider. Two hours later i got a call and came to look at the car, gave him $25k and drove it home the next day.

You have the power for serious negotiating at this time, people dont want to lose money on the car but they are desperate to get rid of them, so you have the upper hand.

I loved the Bullitt movie, especially the chase scene and all the old cars in the background. I didn't think they made that version in a convertible.

I'm planning on looking at two new cars a couple of hours away.
I built & priced them, and it looks like the difference between them & the used ones will be under $5K, which is not too bad.

First one is a 2008, has cloth roof, interior upgrade, anti-theft, Sirius, HID, GT upfitter- 18”, spoiler delete, 3.55 LSD, boot cover, ambient lighting. Sticker is $36,920, employee w/o any incentives is $32,818. Edmunds says "others" are paying $30,002 for a car like this.

Second one is a 2009, has cloth roof, security, 3.55 LSD, appearance, boot cover, 18”, sync. Sticker is $36,770, employee w/o incentives is $ 32,845. Edmunds says others are paying $31,959.

The only used one worth considering at this point is a lot farther away. I want to see how these two look and get an idea of how flexible the pricing is. I also need to test one & see how the backseat room is for our kid.

Thanks again for the advice. I'll update after I look at them.

I am newbie to this forum. the last information on this thread is twon months old. I am looking at a new 2008 GT Prem. Convert. with GT Calif. pkg and a bunch of other options. MSRP is $38,815. I know there is $4250 of factory incentives.

I wan to know what prices anyone has recently paid before incentives for a car like this and wht folks think I should pay before incentives. Edmunds has the TMV at $34,764 and the invoice at $35,802. WHAT SHOULD I PAY BEFORE INCENTIVES?
