I am looking to purchase a short throw shifter for my 07 Mustang GT. Just want to get some opinions from some of you that have purchased one already. Does anyone have some good suggestions. Possibly what to stay away from.
I have herd of all those. Hurst seems to be the most mentioned. I also called shelby performance parts and they have one for 299.00 plus 44.95 for the knob. The guy I talked to said it is way superior to Hurst. Do you think that the shifter is really that much better?
About that shift rattle, mine does it a little. I don't know if it's something that needs to be tightened? We are talking about the new billet shifter, right? I think I was one of the ones who got the first ones off the assembly line. Mine may have a bug or 2 in it. It ain't the perfect shifter (the rattle kinda brings back fond memories of my old '66 Mustang), but it's bad-a$$ looking in the car.
Not for a while now (knock on wood) My last ticket was on my Harley and I sold that in '98.
I've had the Hurst out twice trying to get rid of the rattle. So far so good with this last try but I'm sure it's just a matter of time. My Hurst doesn't feel quite as loose as my '65's shifter.
It does look good though. I went with a taped 8-ball for a shift knob.
You might want to do a search on this as it has been beaten to death several times over. I believe that a search will show that MGW is definitely the way to go. Have had mine 16 months in my 07 GT and quality of materials and performance is outstanding.
I have a Steeda Sport shifter....Its not sexy but works great with a 1" shorter throw. The urathane bushings really tighten up the shift...I also have not missed 3rd since I put it in.....Save some cash and try one....You can get it two ways...a do it yourself kit or fully assembled. No rattles, just works. GA

I went with the MGW for the quality, adjustability (have it at 7 turns), and reputation. I'm very satisfied. The difference between the MGW and the stock shifter is like night and day.

Had the Steeda Tri-Ax in my 07. Didn't like it. It had alot of feedback coming from the transmission up the stalk. Also it comes with a real pitiful/ugly stalk. My 08 has the Hurst, which to me, seems shorter and tighter than the Steeda ever did. Love it!

There was a psot recently that had a link to a review/comparison of all the different short throws available.
