Typically, how long does the factory clutch last? I have about 32,000 miles or so and I was just wondering how much longer will it last. I guess it also depends on how you drive, but is it practical to think that I will get aroud 50,000 miles out of it?
What brand would you guys recommend? Do you think I could just take it to the dealership and let them do whats needed or buy separately and install?
Hope everyone has a good holiday and a safe and ticket free year
If the clutch assembly is properly installed, and you do not beat on it or slip it during normal driving(some car owners do this w/o realizing it), then you should get at least 50K miles out of it(and perhaps more).
Mine fell apart within the first year, as a weekend car. I couldnt prove defect, so ford wouldnt cover it. Gave me a reason to upgrade to the spec2 (which is awesome). The stock clutch is mushy and weak compared to the spec2...Couldnt be happier
Can you give me more info on the spec2? Is it a Ford product or 3rd party? How much w/ installation?
Its a stage 2 clutch made by Spec. I purchased it from Brenspeed as a clutch/aluminum flywheel combo for about $700.00. I think it was $689.00. Each stage handles different levels of power. Brenspeed still sells them, but I dont see the package (clutch/flywheel) offered anymore. labor was about $300.00 for install. Worth every dime
1 year? 25k? 50k? What the hell? Shouldn't it last over 100k under normal driving or is it just junk? The clutch in my truck has over 100k miles on it. Apples and oranges between the truck and Mustang, but if the clutch is made to the correct specs for the application, it should last much longer than 25 or 50 thousand miles.

It all depends on how you use it. I sold my '00 GT with 100K on it and it still had the original clutch.
41,000 and ticking on my GT. some autocrosses and drag race style launches, but nothing very abusive. but i can feel the clutch is nearing the end of its life cycle. I am looking for kits that can handle 550tq and hp for my future upgrades.

If the car is driven properly, the clutch should last for about as long as you have the car.
true dat. my sister drives a 95 Ford Probe and it has over 100,000 miles on the OEM clutch.
the rest of the car is questionable for reliability, but that clutch ain't going out anytime soon.
heck, now that I think about it, the car probably has closer to 200,000 miles on it.
