When I got home and looked at the paperwork, I noticed that the copy of the build sheet they gave me showed $946 in dealer holdback on the car, and their might have been a 1 in front of that number. This means the dealer made money on the sale, even at Xplan pricing with the cash back from Ford. The GT I bought had an MSRP of 32,210, my price was in the low 28K range. I managed to dig into the dealer profit a little by getting slightly more than the trade in value on the car I was handing in as well. Car sales are way off right now, use that to your advantage. Know what the invoice price is on the actual vehicle you want to buy, and stand firm. Right now, you should be able to get it at that price, minus the cash from Ford. Show up at the dealer with the real numbers for the car you want. If they push back, tell them and be willing to move onto a new dealer. The first dealership I went to undervalued my trade by $1k, and didn't want to move. The next dealership negotiated without any trouble. Day after I bought my new GT, the first dealer called to offer the car on the terms I'd been pushing for. I was happy to tell them no deal - I already bought a GT. The car I bought was actually a better deal.
IM me if you want X-plan pricing on a specific car, I can look it up for you. It'll be a little lower than invoice, which is what you should shoot for.
I don't fault anyone for trying to get the best deal they can but just remember this. The Dealers have to make money or you won't have any Dealers to go to. I can assure you there was not a one in front of that holdback figure. It is a buyers market, but just keep in mind that just the Dealer I work for has tremendous overhead and we are stronger than many. A typical electric bill runs 10-14 thousand a month. Dealer computer systems is another 15 grand then there are property taxes ET. Shop liability insurance is crazy high not to mention salaries, everyone don't work on commision. I have watched my pay which is 100% commission drop over 25% in the last 5 years, has yours? Just be glad that you have a Dealer to go to. I am not trying to be a smart butt, just stating facts. You do the math, how many cars must you sell per month to turn a profit? We are not Exxon Mobile!

Only $100 off with the X-Plan? Are you sure that's right? When I bought my GT in '06 I got $1,000 off with the X-Plan.

I've started looking at the '09 GT's and I test drove a nice looking basic 09' Vista Blue CS (CS package with the 3.55 rear is the only option) a dealer had at the OK car show last Saturday , show price was 26,700, MSRP was 31,365... So they were knocking nearly 4700 off,

I just looked ebay and they show a couple priced at 26,295 so I think I'll go back over there tomorrow and offer 24,000 to start the process and see where that goes.

I have to say, I liked the look of the '10 Mustang quite a bit, the rounder front and rear gives it a little more European look to me.
