My driving style isn't listed in the poll! How about us older guys that don't race at all, but enjoy the power the GT provides to get us around those "old folks" puttering down the road.
Just wondering where the "Drive normally on street" choice was... If you habitually race anywhere but the track you have no respect for yourself or for others.
Good point JudyStang, but I was not trying to poll for driving habits. Maybe the title was wrong... sorry. It's a poll on racing practices. The fact is, when people buy high hp cars, it's just a matter of time when they put them into use. That's when a race occurs, because there are other people out there that will challenge you whether street or track. The question is... when they did it, where were they? Street? Track?
I don't promote street racing, but like I said, I am no saint, I have raced on streets before. I know it's wrong. I know it's bad. But so is eating a double quarter pounder and large fries.

So if somebody sees you driving fast and tries to catch you, you always slow down and give them a way like you'd give an ambulance a way?
Not at all. If i'm on the interstate outside of town i'll play around with them a little bit. But if i'm driving through town I keep it civilized. I've got the cleanest driving record in my family and I'd like to keep it that way.

my town sucks i have had my stang for 4 months have not had a challenge one.and i go looking if i see a sports car of any kind i will try but nobody here wants any part.i probally would not race but atleast takeoff hard see what we got maybe somthing please.i mainly just drive with a lead foot entertain my self.i like to go to back roads and play somtimes open it up a little then put her back to bed.i worry how much and how hard you can be on these car dont want to be walking are buying new tranny or motor or rear end etc.
Street racing is fine in my opinion as long as common sense is used. A three honk race from 50 to 100 or even more on a desolate highway isn't dangerous. Country and honor must sometimes be defended.
Personally, I don't race, but sometimes I am pulling off a stoplight and someone pulls ahead of me, so I gas it.. I just react..
On the other hand, I do like acceleration, so I am almost never easy on the pedal..
Well said. Why not use the powah of the GT? As long as I don't bark the tires, there really isn't much of a law against getting to the speed limit quickly Granted, I'm not going to test that if the po-po is there.

Racing? Nah... not really...
Playing, yes... getting out of traffic as quickly as possible (or reasonable), yes...
Otherwise, forget it. Generally, there's too many other cars on the road for me to risk hurting my car, and/or someone else's. I'd like to think I've got common sense.
Could be more a matter of individual perspective on this question, though. What I call playing, another might call racing, or vice versa.

Maybe the title should have been "What kind of racer are you?"
What kind of a racer was I? Over thirty years ago I raced strictly on the street. But it was a different time then. Not nearly as much traffic congestion as now. And we'd meet up to arrange the race in a fast food parking lot, but drive out to a divided highway (two lanes each way with a median and very limited side access) to actually race. We'd cruise one way looking for cops first, then turn around at one of the infrequent intersections and line up to race on the way back. Seemed pretty safe at the time.
What kind of racer am I now? Strictly a bench racer.

I'm a definite cruiser. I like driving around town letting people see my car and getting compliments whenever they fly by. Especially in the summer time...there's nothing better to me than cruising the town with friends or a girlfriend on a warm Saturday night with the tunes blaring and wonderful sites of the city. Also I'm only 28 and insurance for 2 cars is pretty high as it is, I couldn't imagine how through the roof my insurance would get if I went out and did something stupid like getting a speeding ticket or worse. Now, I do have a go at spirited driving from time to time but as far as being a racer...definitely not. Every once in a while I get sucked into those "race to the next light" deal with some import enthusiast but that is pretty much the gist of my racing career. I didn't get my Mustang to race and even if I own a GT or GT500, my driving style wouldn't change. Also another key thing for me is that my Mustang is on something called short distance, short travel (or something like that) insurance (it gave me a discount on my insurance premium) where I can't drive the Mustang more than a specific number of miles a year so for me that means I'm in my mild mannered Hyundai Sonata with its 4 speed auto and 160hp 2.4L i-4 engine the majority of the time. So when I do get the urge to get a little frisky on highway 9/10 times I'm in the wrong car to do it in. It's actually mellowed me out as a driver because I used to be ultra aggressive in my younger years...now it's about how high I can get the M.P.G. indicator to go when I'm driving.

I was raised with 9 dogs and countless cats. All but 1 or 2 stay outside all the time. We have a fenced lot. Them dogs are ferocious to strangers unless we accompany the person into our property. At the same time they wag their tail crazy when we come home and tuck it in when we gat mad at them. How is this? We all know that a dogs transition from puppies to dogs at a certain age. When this happens, they challenge their owners. When this happens, my dad would beat the snot out of them to show them who's the boss. At the same time after that point has been proven. He would try to pull them from under the couch and pet them until all fear is gone.
What's my point here: Man is not far from this type of behavior. Sometimes the best way to put order back to chaos some pups would cause is to give them some sort of beating (doesn't have to be physical). Then while they're down, offer your hand to pull them back up and put your arms around their shoulder and tell them that you did it because you care about them.
What the heck am I talking about?
If you believe you are an old, experienced, and skilled driver with all the respect and discipline in the world. Go beat those young and dangerous pups, give em some love, then show em how to do it right.
Are all Mustang owners brothers and sisters, or do we hate each other like the Camaros, Challengers, etc. hate us? A kingdom divided in itself cannot stand!
Its Friday and Im bored... I need to find something else to do! Oh yeah, I can go back to doing my job. .
