When car was driven on the street, it was never raced...no traction...in fact to ensure that noone was tempted to street-race, we put regular tires on it. I've had fast factory stock cars for ever (last one was a Viper, before that a C5Z06) and street racing has never appealed to me. Maybe because, I'm just an average driver with average skills at best.
Now the mustang has been removed from street-use and is being rebuilt for racing only.

Let's think about this another way. If you have never driven on any type of race track anywhere, and you plan on never doing so, what is the point of making any performance modifications to a car such as the 300hp S197 Mustang GT? It already has more than adequate power to perform all normal driving requirements, including on-ramp acceleration and highway passing maneuvers. Is it the need to impress others or the need for your car to be faster and therefore better than theirs? And if you have spent a lot of money and time to increase horsepower and make it faster, can you resist trying to prove it is every single time an opportunity arises on the street when another performance car pulls up next to you on a desolate roadway and respectfully requests your participation in a short test of comparative acceleration?

Ok....it appears I was talking about apples and others were talking about oranges....lol.
For the people that are lucky enough to live in the midwest and have long stretches of desolate highways, if you open up your Mustang there I don't have a problem with that as long as there is nobody else around.
I was talking about the lunatics that are doing this as they weave in and around other traffic on the road, even if it's very light traffic, it's still traffic nonetheless.
GTRonn....I stand corrected. You may do a burnout in front of me and leave your dust in my face....
ok well I have a mustang and spend money on it to go fast .......I take my car out at night and kick the heck out of it.......if there is a fast car around and we boot it on the street ...I will ... boot it as long as it is safe we have some room at least to reach like 120 -140 kh then slow down so thats pretty cool I live in toronto we have a 50 over the speed limit car gone and drivers lic suspenision for a week so got to be carefull usually drive on streets around 80 kh so at least you can go pretty quick..

My previous post was not in favor of street racing. There haven't been any sparsely driven highways in the midwest for decades. I was honestly asking what the purpose was of spending a lot of money to make an already quick car even faster if you never ever intend to take it to any kind of track to participate in legal racing? I'm afraid I just felt the need to present the question with a bit too much flowery prose.

you dont necessarily have to be in the midwest, i kno if ur out on the road at 11 o clock at night on a weekday there is close to nobody on the highway and at 2-3 AM on friday-saturday, its the same but mid day racing is a no
Only time i have done that is when im at a light and im tempted by a camaro or something, both my dad and i will go 0- to speed limit and stop

I've never been to a track, and given that apparently non-rollbar verts aren't allowed, I probably never will be. On the other hand, in a year and change of owning this car, I've never actually street-raced either. I just pull away from lights really fast, and use interstate on-ramps as my mini-racetracks.
That said, I do plan on putting a few mods on my car, for much the same reason that I've added RAM and a few other 'mods' to my already-fast PC even though I'm not using it for CPU-stressing games: I just like having it noticeably faster. It makes me feel happy.
I race at the track now only. I like to romp on it from time to time, nothing full out though. Around town I have been driving pretty mellow. I do not want to give my money to speeding tickets, only mods.

I grew up in an era where every friday night it was TnT at the track, and on late sat night/early sun morning we were all at the shut down section of old 90 or at the abandoned runway. Either way we had lookouts for the police and there was no traffic in or out bound but it still provided the illegal thrill. People don't do that any more. They bob and weave through traffic, on surface roads. I do not street race, I will however open her up on a long stretch of open highway. If I can't see any cars till the horizon then I'm good with running from a roll against someone else from time to time. I've gotten two chargers and an MR2 (i know.. but he started it I swear) I cruise the streets, so I'm not sure what I should have voted.

You sound a lot like me. I still go to TNT on Friday nites but the track is a 1/8 mile and that sucks. The open road is your friend.
I agree with many of you guys and gals. Thank God I am fortunate enough to live near a road race course (Willow Springs IR) . I have always thought street racing is like PLAYING with a loaded gun. Some people just dont get the concept that things can go real bad !!! Now you can even loose your car if you are caught racing on the street !! No Thanks!! I will race anyone on the track only!!! racerfrank 08' GT Gabber Orange wide-body
Just wondering where the "Drive normally on street" choice was... If you habitually race anywhere but the track you have no respect for yourself or for others.
Good point Judi. If I were to race it would be on the track only.
