Hi all. My first post here although I have been reading this forum for a couple weeks.
There has been lots of great advice about Cold Air Induction upgrades here and I want to thank all those who have contributed their comments. They are helpful indeed.
I decided on installing M-FR1-MGT from Ford Racing. I like the factory look and that it preserves my warranty, Also living in a CARB state (gag) had some weight. I figured I could get a dealer to install the package and Fords 91 tune. Then after wards, change the tune to one from one of the recommended providers. Bama most likely.
Today I phoned my local in town Ford dealer and talked to their service writer. He told me that installing that package would void my warrenty. I mentioned I thought that because it was a Ford part number and installed by a ford dealer I would get a limited one year warranty on the kit. Nope, its all void he says. Being clued in from the comments here, I respectfully backed out of the conversation and hung up. If that is all he knows, I don't want him working on my car anyway.
Next I called Galpin Auto Sports. The same dealer where I bought my Mustang about 7 months ago. That service writer knew exactly what I was talking about. Even asked me if I would be installing the kit with the replacement mufflers, larger chromed tips and special oil filter (lol). I said yes, that was the plan.
On Ford Racing's web site, that kit has a suggested retail price of $989. And from what I saw in the installation video, it would take about an hour to install. Maybe Three hours for me in my driveway set up to clean up included. I am thinking... The kit, tax, and an hour of shop time... $1200 bucks. I was told the cost would be $1600! Does that include a programmer for me to take home? A Dyno tune? Why do they think they need 500 bucks for some thing as simple to install as that I wondered. I back peddled some and and am now trying to come up with my next move. I need more information.
Is Galpin's price excessive for Southern California? Has any one here had a dealer install the power upgrade package? How much did they hit you for the job? Should I have a try at haggling the price? What about prices in say Arizona. I have a road trip planned out there any way next month. Maybe I can use a day to have a dealer out there install the kit If I pre-arranged it with them that is.
I am all ears er eyes... lol... comments or suggestions?

go to cerritos ford they will install it for you. i asked them and they said that theyll install an aftermarket part no problem. now for your warranty itll still be valid. the only way for your warranty to be dumped is for that aftermarket part to be the casue for an internal problem. example your cold air intake is the cause for a problem in your engine and it needs replacement than they wont replace it cuz the problem was caused by the aftermarket part.

Yes I believe that includes the Ford handheld tuner.
Cusp, I live in Carp, bought my 08GT from Barber Ford. They used to be a SVT dealer. Give them a call and see if they will do the install.
I phoned Barber Ford last week and today I got the performance package installed. Turns out that they were not able to sell me the kit but they would install it for me. The service manager knew a guy who had a take off kit with about 1,500 miles on it which the guy wanted to get sell. I accepted his offer of less than 1/2 the new price for the CAI, programmer and GTAs contigent on that they were all good as new and that the programmer would work on my car. He assured me it would but would test that first before any other work was done. My car took the flash fine and about 90 minutes later I was ready to roll out the door.
The GTA tips fill out the notches better and the sound is nice. Freeway I can't tell the difference. They are quite. Until I get on the gas.... well that story has been re-hashed on this and other sites. I am satisfied with the deal. Thank you for the tip.

Did some more checking. My take off kit did not come with the CARB sticker which I just found out is an automatic visual inspection fail a few years down the road then it needs a smog check. Unless I reinstall the factory air box stuff and reflash to the factory tune. I called Ford Racing to see if I could get a replacement CARB sticker. Their Man was not their so I have to call back Monday. I got the O.E number for the Kit and made my own sticker for now. I guess I am parinoid about getting a fix it ticket some how. More later.
First thoughts.. It defenately added some zip. And if driven that way, reduced the MPG some. More than the increase in HP would seem to predict. Although putting around and keeping the RPMs low the MPG seems about the same. Next week is a road trip out to AZ. Lots of hours with the cruise control on. Will know more about the effects of running 91 on the new CAi and tune then.
