Need Advice on Applying Le Mans Stripes to 2006 Mustang Hi everyone, I'm hoping that at least a few of you may have had this problem in the past. I'm hoping someone can indulge me and help out a bit.
I've bought a set of 12 inch black Le Mans stripes that I want to put on my light silver 2006 Mustang. I've read through a lot of instructions about how to do this, and I've thought that I could handle it. I work in design and deal a lot with measurements, alignments, and that sort of thing, so it seemed as if it's no big deal. I cut a few short pieces last night to apply for practice just so that I would know what works and what doesn't. I'd tried to apply them to the spoiler because this was a section where I could simply remove the stripes if I didn't have any luck and wouldn't have lost too much of the material. Turns out this was a lot trickier than I'd expected.
I didn't really have any issues applying it to the top surface of the spoiler, nor did I really have a lot of trouble getting it underneath the front part. The part that was trickiest for me was on the curve closest to the bumper. Due to the curvature of the spoiler, I was never able to get the vinyl to properly apply itself. It wouldn't stick completely to edges and would wrinkle considerably underneath the spoiler on this side. Not to mention the fact that the curve causes the vinyl to make a turn that will make it appear misaligned once I've applied the rest of the vinyl all over the car.
After that experience, I think I'm confident enough that I will be able to handle applying the vinyl to the hood and top of the car, but I'm just not so sure about the back end. I already know the spoiler will be a pain, and I dread to think about needing to make cuts to the vinyl around the faux gas cap and the third brake light.
So, anyone know of any way to help me out? One thing I've looked extensively online for is a printable pattern that I can trace cuts through, but I've not had any luck finding that. Advice online concerning working with these curves and edges has been pretty hard to come by as well.
Any help or advice along these lines would be vastly appreciated. |
