We use that type of filter in machine hydraulic systems where I work. I work in maintenance so I have cleaned a number of them and my opinion is they are good in closed system like we use them but in an engine that will see blow by and oil break down no thanks. Besides if you don't have a really good way of cleaning them they are simply not worth it.
I agree with 05horse. Give me a 3$ Fram any day.

DUMB LOOKS ARE STILL FREE
The filter you use is as important as the oil, if you're using a 3$ Fram filter ,imo, you don't care much about your car/engine. Use a quality filter not a piece of cardboard crap.
Use the Motorcraft or better yet the the Ford Racing FL-820. If you're using a full synthetic oil you won't be changing oil less the 5,000 mile intervals anyway.
Take care of your baby and she'll take care of you!

first off my baby is a piece of crap, second ive ran frams for years, in 4 cars/trucks, never had a problem, 3rd motorcraft fram potato potato tomato tomato blah blah blah
i use regualr oil, ( in all of them ) change it every 2000 miles, so its clean, so the fram is good enough for this application. if it was synthetic and went 5K i might use the more priced motorcraft, but i dont need it.
one ram has 270K on it.
then again its a dodge not a crappy ford
im not saying, im jsut saying.
frams are ok, if you keep clean oil.
infact when i tore the valve cover down and my oil had been sitting, it was still golden in the sunlight

Field clean with soap and water? That would be a pain. I don't even have any fields around me.
Hey, if you can afford $198 for an oil filter, you can afford a field.
Back in the day, farmers used to use toilet paper for filters. Oil goes through slowly and the paper filters out all the shavings. From then on, all you change is the oil. From what I heard it was a lifetime filter and they did have a preference for brand.
Course those tractors redline at about 2500 RPM and make about 30 hp. We used to plow and mow at 2000 rpm, all day long.
Field clean w/ soap and water. Wow, you don't even have to dry it. Lifetime filters are fine if you plan to live 6 more months.
Looks nice tho, but I can't see how clean you could get it after pushing oil through it for 5k miles (even if you do use soap in the field).
