I have a 2006 Mustang GT I bought almost exactly three years ago. Recently, I noticed rust bubbling up from the rear deck lid lip and both doors. The rust is so car confined to the inside and not visible unless you open the doors and look, but I know that this is only going to spread.
The rust started about a year ago, and I waited until it was visible enough to take to the dealership. The dealership told me that paint is covered by the 3/36 warrantee, which happened to be the mileage just before the rust started to appear (about 40k). They told me I need a rust hole large enough to stick a pencil through for it to be covered by the corrosion warrantee.
The dealer said this was a known issue with 2005+ Mustangs, Explorers, Expeditions etc.
So my question to you guys is how many have rust on your 2005+ mustangs? Where do I go from here?
My car is garaged, washed every three weeks and well maintained, though it is high mileage at 56k. It is a very late 2006 model year, built in may 06 and purchased in September of that year.

Most of the issues I've read about were concerning the hood. I too have a spot on my deck lid as well. My opinion is that something is not being done, or done right, during the prep work at the factory. From what you posted about corrosion, it appears we are probably on our own in regards to keeping the body of our cars tip-top.
Remember those early 1980's Toyota Celica's trunk area? Everyone of those cars had rust problems along the rear hatch line. Iam foreseeing the same concerns regarding our cars.
I've had similar experiences with other makes of cars and was told if the sheet metal wasn't rusted through, they would not repair the rust under corrosion warranty. Depends on the dealer you take it to, it seems.
