Default FRPP 3V Throttle Body for the S197 Mustang GT

Hey everyone. I was searching some bolts-on parts on a few websites and i came across the FRPP 3V Throttle Body. I heard all the stories of how throttle bodys are pretty mutch just paper-weights now and to keep with the stock one.

I was wondering if any1 has had experience with this new FRPP one. its a 62mm bore and sure does have a nice polish look to it lol. Im looking to doign some bolt-ons and this is on my mind.

Spend the $ elsewhere or go for the new FRPP 3V Throttle Body.

I was just wondering how it might work with my applications i have done to my GT already. I was thinking on doing the throttle body along with Steeda Charge Motion Plates... Just wondering if any1 had the FRPP TB and their experiences. If it was like the rest or not.

I dont know what else to do

Very nice throttle body , I do believe you will have to have some custom dyno tuning for it. I know it says plug n play, this is really not true. Very nice looking throttle body though. I just polished mine and I am very happy. This took like 3 days and a lot of work. It may of been worth me just buying the FRRRP throttle body.

The stock throttle body (twin 60mm right?) is 5654.88 sq mm.

As well as the Ford magazines I also read all of the Chevy stuff to. Particularly the ones that are more tech oriented. The Chevy guys are running 350-410cu.in. LT and LS smallblocks that make between 550-700hp (crank) NA with a 80mm TB (the race motors use 90mm TB’s sometimes) which is 5026.56 sq mm.

If you roughly convert the LT/LS crank numbers to RWHP numbers you get 412-595.

From those numbers it’s fairly obvious that the OEM TB is plenty big for a NA motor unless you build the guts out of it. And then it’s still debatable if you need a bigger one even then. There are tons of 600hp NA motors running TB’s smaller than what we get stock.

I’m not saying that there are zero gains to be had by putting a larger throttle body on a NA 4.6. I’m saying that the couple of HP that you may gain up top will not be worth the average HP and TQ that you loose. Maybe if your car is geared to the moon and it only drives 1/4 mile at a time would it be worth considering.

IMO unless you build the crap out of your motor and spin it too 8,500RPM the small gain up top that you may get from a bigger TB is not worth the average power you will loose through the rest of the powerband.

I think it'll run ok without any tuning but certainly better with one.

I`d spend the $ elsewhere. The stock TB will work just fine. I was told until you start running over 10lbs of boost, it`s not really worth the $. I used the stock TB until we went up to 16 lbs boost.

Or N/A with heads and cams... I picked up 12 with the GT500 TB when I was N/A.

well i wouldnt wanna go all the way back to MD for another dyno tune for a throttle body b/c i live in NJ. Im sure i can get a tune e-maild over for it.

Im stuck on weather i should go with 15" JEG Sport-Stars with skinnys on the front and MT on the rear for the 1/4mile, or go for the FRPP TB with other bolt ons.

It be nice if they made a single port TB.

Dont know much about the FRPP But have seen gains with the GT500 with cams and headwork. Is it worth it? Thats something you have to ask yourself.

Stock throttle does flow pretty well. And we do know that the size of the opening doesnt determine all....Velocity is a huge factor. I dont know much about either TB to discuss.

I have heard horror storys with TBs such as the BBK, but again nothing about the FRPP.

Good luck

Whipple makes a mono blade throttle body, but tuning with it can be a nightmare.I tried one this spring, even with cams, heads etc and 16 lbs of boost,my tuner had problems.I was great at WOT, but the driveability wasn`t very good.I`m now running the FRPP billet 62mm TB,and it work excellent at all RPM`s.You have to decide if $500,plus the tuning, is worth maybe 12rwhp.

I'm running the FRPP at 14PSI and it's been rock-solid.

You can do what I did. Or have some one do it for you. I think Reggie in the drag racing forums may do that sort of thing.
Here is my old thread on how to polish your throttle body. Not sure why it was not made a sticky. Oh WELL
