While the car is stopped, while in drive, with your foot on the brake, pull the gear selector into "1".
For "general driving" give the car some gas & watch your RPMs. When you hit about 2000rpms, continue putting slight pressure on the gas pedal and push the selector into "2". Shift into 3rd the same way, and 4th as "D". If you turn off overdrive before all of this, "D" will function only as 4th gear. Hit the O/D button again to shift into 5th.
For "fun/aggresive" driving, if you gas it pretty good you can take it to redline and shift if you want.
Anywhere in between these, just shift if it doesn't sound right lol. Have fun!

There is NO benefit in shifting it on your own, you can't outshift the computer.

Yeah just leave it in "D".
Really the only reason to use any other gear would be if you're on a hill or going down a mountain. Sometimes you want to stay in a certain gear to help slow the car down so you don't burn up your brakes. I remember my dad doing it all the time when we went to the mountains to go camping.
if you want to do this purchase a TCI Ratchet shifter, otherwise don't do this because you can cause some serious harm. The TCI has a gate to prevent missed shifts to the wrong gear where the stocker doesn't
yeah here you go this is how you use it.... put it on 3 if you want to use a lot of gas. put it in 2 if you dont want to go fater than 25. and lastly put it on 1 if you want to screw up your transmission.
or leave it on D if you want your car to shift like any mortal soul would want to shift. flawlessly
can someone explain to me how to use the 1,2,and 3? can u like shift while driving? and wen is the rite time to go frm 1 to 2. and 2 to 3.
There is no need to shift , just get a good intake and 93 tune from bamas or brenspeed and your auto will shift like a god by itself, just leave it in D ha............my buddy has an auto and when he got his tune and intake from bamas it was whole new animal...trust me..drove it before and after and its WAY better....but mines faster
the only reason to keep it in lower gears like these guys said is if your trying to slow the car down, or if your out at an event like autocross or on road course then you should shift it yourself because otherwise you'll be sitting at 2k rpms waiting for the power to come on when you're exiting a turn and its just stupid.
Sheesh, no one else on here every shifts these like a manual for fun???
You're boring! Hah!
heck ya, ive dropped a gear or 2 and put it to the floor for fun, and run up through the gears too. i dont do it much, but sometimes you just gotta live a little

I manually shift my automatic all of the time - i'm always taking off in first, i actually leave it in 3rd a lot of the time unless i wanna go above 3grand or 45mph and then i'll throw it into D. Sorry but compared to letting the computer shift, manually shifting it myself i get better times so the computer isn't always faster - not in my opinion
I want to keep my automatic transmission just the way it is , intact and not on the pavement. So without a TCI Streetfighter shifter I dont think its too safe ( If I wanted to shift I would have got a manual ) JMO
