Default Help with tire shopping

I have a set of 17X10 rims and I am looking to put the best rubber for the track I can, Nitto 555rs failed at the track, great for the street but thats about it...so any suggestions? Brand/model/size?

I have 555s and wish I'd put Nitto drag radials on the rear instead. If you want a track and street tire they come closest to giving the best of both worlds. For the 17x9 rims on my Cobra I think the Nitto drag radial that fits size is 315-35-17. maybe able to go a bit wider on your car with proper offset but I have no idea.

if you can't get grip with those, nothing short of a drag radial is going to help you. on the street they won't get you more than 5k miles though

I have the 315 Nitto DR's but I only like them for the street. Wheel hop with an IRS isn't good. For the track i have a second set of rims with MT ET Streets, 275's that are great for the track but crappy on the street...well, only crappy if it rains.
Back in SC, my friend had an 01 Mustang GT and he had nitto's and spun. I told him we'll swap rims so he could try my MT ET's. First round, they hooked so good his foot came off the gas. We thought his car took a dump but then he took off down the track. We laughed and me moved his seat up more. Second run was his best ET in that car and said he would never buy Nitto DR's again.

just for the record nitto 555Rs are drag radials, I am having no luck with them so I was wondering what other people suggest, I am running a full bolt on GT with a 125 shot of nitrous... hoosier? MT?

I had a set of Hoosier DOT DRs. They hooked very well but only got about 8000 miles out of them.

Thats the thing, in order for the tires to hook really well they need to have a really soft compound which wears out fast and has a lot of road noise which is o.k. to me . To hook at the track you need slicks or something close. And the rear suspention needs to bite as well. Moving the LCA to a good angle is paramount. That will help the Nittos a lot or any tires. Personally for me a stock gt needs to slip a little to insure non breakage. But thats just me

Jesus, what kind of HP/TQ are you pushing?! My neighbor has these on his daily driver 07 GT 5spd Manual that is equipped with a Saleen T/S that is doing 430rwhp and 420rwtq.. He doesn't have to even light them up, drive around for 5 mins normal driving and they are heated up enough, he can hit full boost in 1st gear without a chirp.. Hell in the rain he is able to boost 4-5lbs and have it grip!
