I really think the Mac axlebacks are the best sounding one out there I'ver heard on videos anyway, and want to get some. I have heard they drone really bad though. I have never experienced drone before and wondered how bad they were in the car. Is it really that unbearable? Also, I have a convertable and wondered if the less structural integrity of a convertable vs. hardtop might lessen the harmonic vibration. If any of you have firsthand experience that would be great. I would really like to avoid the high price of some of the other popular options and would prefer a chambered muffler over the other designs.
I had the macs installed on my stang for 1 day and the drone was totally unbearable. I actually never knew what drone was until that day. Needless to say they came of and the slp's went back on. They do sound bad ass from the outside and look great but I just could not deal with the drone.
Yes, they do drone very bad. If i was the only one that rides in my car, i probably would have kept them on. With passengers, especially in the back seat....no way. When i put the offroad x on with them, thats when i took them off, worst combo i have heard yet

Are you looking at the chambered mufflers or the Boom Tubes? MAC's chambered mufflers have a bad reputation for drone, but their Boom Tubes have very little to no drone. I love my Boom Tubes, they sound great without being too loud to where you can't carry on a conversation with somebody while driving down the interstate.

I like the boomtubes but yes, I was talking about the chambered ones. I am thinking about long tubes w/catted H and I am a little afraid the boomtubes might be too loud for my neighborhood. The last thing I want is aggravating the lady cop that lives 3 houses down.....would the catted midpipe reduce the sound enough that I might avoid pissing everyone off around my house if I idle down the road? I live at the bottom of the hill and could stay off the gas pretty well.
Longtubes w/ catted H matched with the MAC chambered is one of our favorite exhaust combinations, one of the meanest sounds you can get. Real deep and throaty.

I'm obviously biased but I love my MACs. There's only a drone in a very small rpm range and you can either shift up or down to get out of it. Once they break in it's even lessened. It's not like there's a constant drone the whole time you're driving. I don't find it to be an issue myself. They also look great with chrome 4 inch tips that really fill up the cut outs.
Just my .02.

Unfortunately I don't have my LT headers installed yet so I can't say how loud it would be with LTs, catted H, and Boom Tubes. Just in case it is too loud I kept the stock mufflers if I have to throw them back on if it is too loud.
Some cops even like a loud exhaust set up just as long as it is not TOO loud
Yes, a catted mid pipe will quiet your exhaust down over an off road mid pipe.
