Well, the fact of the matter is the v6 Mustang is NOT a performance car. It's an economy car with a sports car look. Sheep in wolves clothing? You buy a v6 because you like the looks, not the performance. I'm not hating, I dont care what other people drive, or the reasons they choose them.
Yep. Last year me and my buddy both got our Mustangs.
I got a used V6.
He was looking at the V6 and the Bullitt. He called his insurance agent(AAA) to check the rates, and the Bullitt was another $1000/year over the V6
He said, "Are you serious? I'm already 49!"
The agent said that the rate would drop a little after he turned 50.
He went with the V6 too.
Holly crap. For the hell of it I just checked what my premium would be if I replaced my 06 Mustang GT with an 06 Mustang with a V6. My monthly payment would have dropped a whopping $1.60 yes that's right 1.60.
Has anyone actually compared the difference in insurance between the V6 and V8. I bet at a certain age, the difference is negligible. I didn't actually compare the prices, but my previous car was an 03 Mazda 6s. My 6mt premium was $420. When I got my 06 Mustang GT, my premium increased, but to only $476 every 6mts. Two years and a few mths later my premium dropped to $428 every 6 mths. In my case, I bet a V6 mustang would not have been that much less.

I guess it all depends on how old you are and who you have your insurance through. I know one thing holding me back is my premium going from my 06 to an 07 gt goes up nearly $1000 every six months.
It would be nice to be 26 so it would go down a little.

Age does have a lot to do with it as well as companies. I can't believe that Mr. Ugly's buddy who is 49 would have paid $1000 more per. year with a V8 mustang. Hell, I just turned 36.
I think a lot of the hype about the GT's is the fact that they do have the V8 which was monumental back when these cars came out, and the way they sound can't really compare either.
I don't normally hate on 6's, but i've counted before, the percentage of V6 owners (this is entirely in my area) that check out my car, wave, and have mods is substantially less than the percentage of GT owners that do. This makes me feel like most V6 owners buy it more for the car than the legacy. I'm not saying all do, because there are obviously guys like you who like to upgrade and race V6's, just what i've noticed.
1 year ins for me, I'll be 37 in Jan, $1,970 per year. Perfect record too, lame.

I don't want this thread get into an insurance one, but insurance companies do play a larger part. For shits and giggles I check what my insurance would be with E-surance, I got a quote of $2500 per. year. My premium with USAA is only $857 per. year. If I had a V6 my premium would jump to about $877 per. year.
Seems like practically every last one of them runs some kind of blown V8. At the meets, I'm like the only V6, and I'm parked next to Terminators with built blocks, and 600hp Saleens. There's even a lady with a Grabber Orange Super Snake.
Nobody gives me crap for having "only" a V6.
At the last car show, a guy with a Cobra replica running a fuel injected stroked 351W was checking out my car even.
Probably only the insecure people need to talk crap on other people's cars.

I was a member for a year owning a beautiful 1986 SVO.
Thanks for the input everyone! It does bug me on that forum as locally everyone has a chip on their shoulder and it feels like I'm trying to change the world.!
A little bit of respect for my car as I've made it look so good, The body mods have been exceptionally clean. But the petty remarks that its still a girls car or where is the V8 gets pretty annoying.
I'm an excellent autocrosser and i've put up the challenge that if they can beat my pax time I'll pay for their Event that day (25.00 ) so not a big deal.
If I beat them they reimburse me for the Event. So really if 2 or three come out I could break even or be up some cash! Free tank of gas from the haters!
Well I find most people give up on their dreams way too easy, when you bought your V6 I'm sure you just "had to have it", rather than plan, save, and get a GT or Cobra, the first car I ever drove was a six cylinder 1966 my father bought...however even at 18 years of age, I knew I wanted the 289 version, so I saved, worked and bought my first car a year later, paid $3300 cash for it...had that car for 20 years, one reason in particular is that the V8 of any year is much easier to modify and get excited about anytime you get in it...we're not "haters" and calling out the community as a whole based on the comments of a few for some kinda of race reminds me of the famous Abe Lincoln quote "better to be thought of as an idiot than to open up your mouth and remove all doubt"

Out of curiosity, where do you live?
I'm in WA state, while not in Seattle, I am just north of Everett, which is fairly populated.
The difference here was $155 per year between the GT and V6, going through liberty mutual and I've had mine since I was 35.
When I lived in NYC it was a totally different story, owning anything new, v6 or v8, there was insane, it's why so many get mailboxes or use friends addresses upstate or in long island.
Tell the haters to blow it out their ass. I like your car, ive got a Redfire one same thing but an auto. Besides as long as it makes you happy then thats the only person you should be worried about
