Ok so I am hooked to modding again, and I am on the fence with my next mod.
I really want a set of gears, because I want my car to be faster (in acceleration). In the same price range as gears, I could install a nitrous kit. I currently have 3.55 gears, and drive like 50/50: hwy/city. I'm not sure if 4.10's will be too much for my hwy drives because I cruise at 80-90 mph, which is why nitrous is also in my consideration.
I eventually want to go f/I, but I have no idea how far down the road that may be.
My brother-in-law put 4.10's on the mustang he used t have. He hated them after a week. Could only do 55mph to get any kind of decent fuel mileage. Could start off in 2nd cause 1st was just too short unless he was racing.
I'm on the fence cause neither would be an option for me.
4.10's would only be an option for me if I had a truck or had a dedicated race car.
Nitrous ya gotta be careful with, could blow your motor just like FI can.

honestly i would keep saving. I did a lot of driving the past weekend at 75-80 mph with the 3.31's and i was not pleased with my MPG. i'd imagine that with 4.10's your highway mpg would suffer at such a high speed.
By the time you are doing nitrous "correctly" you are looking at about $1,200.00 if you install yourself. then plan on some drag radials or you will not be able to put the power to the ground.
Kit=$600
Warmer=$130
dynotune=$300
plugs=$80
These are the basics and there are always extras like purge kit, guages, window switch, etc.
If you only have that amount to spend at this time..go with the gears

What's a T-56 conversion cost, around $2600? Unless you get the .50 OD, not gaining much on the highway between .68 and .5 ratio. A 4.10 would make first gear a pretty short gear. I like my 3.55's for all around use. Only my opinion. Save for the blower, much more fun.
Dave
The better idea is put a T6060 in. I'm not sure if a T56 would be the better option.
It's a great option for a fox-body, mainly cause the T6060 doesn't fit I think.

ok.... transmission swaps are not on my mind, sorry
I just dont like how long 3rd gear is in my car. I see it as 2 ways to solve that. 1, i put in a shorter gear ie 4.10's or 2, add more horsepower.
I still want to go F/I, but wont a car with 4.10's run close to the same as a car with a blower?
For instance, me and retrogt2006 (rob) ran neck an neck and i began to pull maybe a half car up top. I have over $4k in performance mods, where he has just has 3.73 gears, intake tune and axle backs. Hes also an automatic and Im a manual with 3.55's. If rob had the same mods as I do, plus the gears he might pull 2 or 3 cars on me... as a supercharge car would, correct?
I just want to build a car that will be perfect for the day the blower gets dropped in
