do yall think there might be a chance of them not putting IRS in the new cobras? basically a prefferance question, but i would rather them not. too many problems.

IRS is a definite yes. I read in a interview with the man in charge of the 05 Mustang that the chassis was designed from the beginning to accept a solid and independent rear suspensions. The real question is what will the engine be like?

i was hoping for the irs on the gt, i think the cobra will get all the good stuf. 18" wheels.gtr front clip. an a killer moto.
yeah but IRS options way better handle /Performance upgrades. I was kind of hoping IRS in the reg mustang too :\ Soild Rear axel is nice, but I'm starting to get tired of allt he bouncing around lol.
the IRS and performance in most ways do not co exist. if you want serious handling, solid axles are a better way to go. the irs rides much better in regular road/street conditions, but put it on a track full of sharp turns and twists and see what happens. If i may quote "5.0 mustangs and super fords" here, "put some power and cornering loads through it, and no doubt the IRS can look like the scarecrow in wizard of oz giving directions. hand it some real power and it can wheelhop like a freshly landed bass." PLUS those extra 66 pounds that it weighs will certainly hurt ET's all over the place. Its just not my favorite part of the cobra lets put it that way.

Makes me wonder why all other sports cars on the market including McLauren F1, Ferrari, the new Fort GT, Porche, Corvett, Viper all used IRS. However most of the cars listed were designed for racing and have the aerodynamics to do it and have a lower center of gravity to boot. I like the IRS in my 01 and I never lost control pushing it to the limit either.
to make it a smoother ride is why they used IRS. this is not an opinion, im just basing my replies from facts. IRS isnt gonna make you lose control, i never said that. All i said was that solid axles will perform better, with no bumpstop. these are just facts. and it weighs less. call me crazy but lighter is usually better when performance is the topic

because they also wanted the Cobra nimble on swisty roads too, the IRS helps turing abaility and such, it will do alright at the track too... I mean it does do a 4.3 0-60 and a 12-13 1/4 mile lol.
"it was the most neutral factory mustang we've ever sampled," including the Cobra R, as stated by MM&FF. IRS is for handling, not saying you can't get a solid axle to handle well. Solid axle is more so for straight line performance. The 03-04 have made better improvements to the IRS than the 99-01 Cobra to elimante problems with axle wind-up and wheel hop.

IRS will handle better in most cases in a roadrace. The current Cobra IRS is a compromised package for use on a 25 y.o. car that wasn't designed for IRS.
At the track on a perfect surface, you're correct, a well-designed stick axle and an IRS will perform nearly equally well . . . on a lowered and substantially modified stick axle platform.
A GT would never outhandle a cobra, stock for stock in a roadrace. Not much would.

I haven't seen a Mach1 for sale in months. I think they may have sold 'em all.
If you go to the Ford site, they used to keep inventory online. (They may have taken this particular tool away, since the dealers were complaining people could shop nationwide). I found a REALLY good deal for my brother using this feature!
