So far the most popular modification of a 2005 Mustang must be painting some stripes to it to resemble the Classic Shelbys, now you can try our exclusive Stripe Painter online!! by spectrum marketing co. thanks mike
The stripe painter is pretty . The mineral grey with black stripes look like the "ellenor" Mustang only without the goofy hood scoop. It also proves that the dual stripe setup needs to have the stripes be wide; not like the vinyl stripes available from Ford accessories.
I too am concerned about the value of your car if you were to paint racing stripes on them. But at the same time, I not planning on selling my 05 GT, so what do I care.
As far as the stripes are concerned, I really don't like the decals that ford offers or the ones that I've seen offered as After Market add-ons. I'd prefer to have them actually painted on the vehicle.
With that in mind, does anyone or has anyone had this done yet? And what can you expect to pay a body shop for racing stripes?
I've ordered (Dec 09) a Performance White 05 GT with the IUP and Red Interior Upgrade. I want to paint red stripes to match the interior. Similar the 3dCarbon stang.

I agree that the Ford accesory stripes are bad looking (too narrow). My suggestion would be to avoid low end bodyshops (Maaco) and get several estimates from different shops. Try a Ford dealer if it has a bodyshop, as they will have more experience working with the type of paint on your Mustang. Make sure they don't just apply the color stripe but also a clear coat over the stripes. As this will give a better appearance. If like the look of the stripes shown with the 'paint striper' then make a copy and show them when getting estimates. Also don't go for the lowest estimate unless its very close to the other ones. The prep work is probably the most important thing when applying painted stripes. That is why you should avoid a low buck shop or estimate, as they will cut corners to match what you are paying them. As for a price I'd say somewhere between 500-1000 bucks. It will cost more then decals, but last alot longer.

I have a red 05 gt and i just got tints done....now im having trouble selecting stripes for my car, they say they can make horses or "mustang" written down each stripe if i get the two...the single stripe with the border around it would prob be nice with a horse on the hood....give me some feedback (black stripes of course)
The stripes on the 2005 mustangs vary quite a bit in width and spacing. Is there a recommended width and space which looks like the white with blue stripe version found in the wallpaper section of afm's gallery? Ie 2" space between stripes and 9" wide?
I have a black on black on order w/ std. rims.
on the stripe painter site THANK YOU whom ever put in the effort, but can we see the rear 3/4 view (cant find a way to contact the designer)
or does any one have a black 05 with stripes or the "choice 3" single stripe with small stripes on each side to post?
my plan is choice 3 in a dark gray or silver, maybe with some metalic in it
may do decal first to see if it grows old then paint and clear coat whole thing
