Dealers that are charging $3,000-$5,000 over invoice are getting all the Mustang GT's they want.
Maybe I'm naive, but I find that a little hard to believe. I was under the impression that the FU tax of $3-5k was going straight to the dealer. How would this impact the # of cars allocated to them?

If this truly is the case, then yeah, shame on Ford. Since Ford lists an MSRP on their site, dealers who charge more only make Ford look bad. It's bait & switch. It's bad PR. And it's bad business.
OurFirstPony: How/Where did you get all the info? I call the 1-800 # daily, still waiting...
We got all of our status through the 800 number. It updated about a day after each change. (IE: on 2/16 it was updated with the 2/15 Rail Carrier status)

I'm afraid you're all right on the money here (no pun intended!). My wife placed my GT order on Jan 13, 2005, and the car arrived at the dealer yesterday, Feb 16, 2005, for a total time of 34 days! I will pick it up tomorrow. I also paid 2k over MSRP. My dealer is the highest selling dealer in the region(so they say), so I guess they get some kind of priority.
My order # is 8212, and I'm still waiting. Are the order #'s "in order"?
Lord, I hope not. My order # is 1115. I wonder if order numbers are specific to the dealers. Mine was ordered through the fleet manager -- maybe fleet orders are on a different system?
For those of you with order numbers from your dealer you can probably get a worst case date on the arrival of your car. Go to your dealer, figure out where you are on the list and how many cars like yours (similar equipment) are ahead of you. Then ask your dealer how many orders are getting picked up each month. Should give you a rough idea of where you really stand.
It is all based on Dealer allocation and region does not appear to be a factor. I'm in Southern California and I've seen orders in the Mid-West and frozen East Coast get picked up faster than mine. I suspect I will see converts rolling around here before I get my hard top.
Is there a "Customer Service" department at Ford Motor Company? Something other than the 1-800 order status number, to inquire about the 3+ month wait for a car? I am tired of hearing "clean and unscheduled". I hope the car is worth all this...
My dealer called moments ago & said my vehicle has finally been scheduled (I ordered on 11/16). He didn't know the exact day yet, but he'll get back to me. Woo hoo!
Yes , my order has been serialized today. Does anyone know if I have to wait until next Friday to get a build date? Progress is good!

Finally!!!! I've got my serial number after being C & U for about 6 weeks. Now I'm a priority 1. John, my salesman, said I'll probabally get built 2nd week of March. Hmmmmmmmm, April delivery maybe in my future!!!!

Ordered Nov 24th., just arrived this morning at Dealer. Will pickup Saturday morning after they get done spraying the sound barrier undercoating, and applying the exterior and interior sealants. It's going to be a good WEEKEND !!!
