Default Shaker 1000 in 05 GT Convertible

Need opinions on the Shaker 1000 system in a 05 GT Convertible. Has anyone seen exactly how much trunk space the 2 subs will take up? Also I have to consider the boot for the convertible if that will fit in the trunk with the sub box? And the most obvious question, is the system that good that it's worth an extra $1295? I own a sound production company so I don't mind paying extra for a good sounding system but I don't want a car that my wife and I couldn't throw a weekend bag in the trunk for a trip either for a little added bass.

Default The Subwoofers take alot of room

I looked at a GT at my Dealer's showroom floor with the Shaker 1000 system. In my opinion, the Shaker 1000 subwoofers take about 20-30% of the available trunk space on the right side of the trunk as you're looking into it. I can't imagine how much trunk space will be available when the top is folded down on a convertable. Of course, you're not looking for a car with storage space if you buy a car like this, right?

Did you listen to the system though and what did you think of it? Also do you think that if I did order it would it slow up the process of build time with only 2% of the 05 Mustangs with the 1000 system?

No, I didn't listen to the Shaker 1000, but I'm sure it provides plenty of bass. If you're looking to have room for a weekend bag, you've got the room. Go for it and get the Shaker 1000.

I've got an '03 'Vert with the Mach 1000 (Same as the Shaker). Don't do it. It takes up way too much room. I can only fit about 4 paper bags full of groceries back there. Unless you've got another car with plenty of trunk space, I'd say pass on it.

It's my understanding that the way the vert top is designed, it doesn't need a boot, it is supposed to have a built in boot. So that should save some trunk room. Figure if you go after market and get subs, box, amps, cables, cross overs, ect., plus pay install -- your $800+, with the shaker 1000 you'll get all that, PLUS factory fit, finish & warranty for not much more.

Also, how many after market steros can out last a factory intstalled system? Not many from what I've seen. Heck, most after markets seem designed to fail in 2-3 years (1 year for Kennwoods LOL).

We intented to get a vert this spring & will be adding the Shaker 1000, no doubt.

Yeah, but that's a coupe, not a convertible. Don't forget the top takes up 30% of the coupe's trunk space.

Also, the Shaker (or at least my Mach 1000) system is a $1300 option. At 6% interest for 5 years (the average car loan), you've just paid $1690. Something to think about.

I listened to the Shaker 1000 before I decided to go with it in my '05 GT. It sounds great. It's louder and cleaner than the Shaker 500 with more bass. The nice thing is, if you don't want the extra boom you can turn off the rear subs. As far as trunk space goes, there should be enough for running errands around town. My concern is if my new GT has enough power to beat my '64 Tripower GTO. I doubt it.

Again,
The $1300 is not a problem and I'd love to have a better sound system, but the unknown here is if the vert does have a built in boot, and if the vert does indeed take up part of your trunk space when it is down. And finally one thing I put on my post and it's actually my biggest concern is that Ford is only building 2% of all 05 Mustangs with the Shaker 1000 option, according to my dealer, this could possibly prolong my order process months......

Just a guess, but with the 1000 being a less used option, they should have plenty of kits on hand, so I'd guess it will not delay it. It's when they get 40,000 people ordering it and only prepared for 30,000, that's when they get delayed...I think...

I guess we won't know for sure about that built-in boot until January, when they start showing off the vert, but if you look at some of the sneak-a-peek pictures, you can see it looks to be true. But even if it's not true, I figure that the boot will HAVE to be designed to fit in around the Shaker 1000, and shouldn't really take up any more room than it would if the 1000 wasn't in, heck, my 95's boot fills the trunk floor as it is any way, I am just saying, with or without the 1000, if we have a boot, it will hog trunk space. (I alway put stuff in the back seat anyhow)

FYI...Just a heads up too, I was at the Motor Trend Auto Show last week and the Ford rep, who travels all over with the shows, told me that the vert option was going to be $4000. That was about what I figured anyhow, but it was nice to hear it from a ford rep & she seemed well informed, more so than any of the local salesmen I've talked too LOL

Oh yeah, there is NO DOUBT, the vert trunk will have WAY less space than the hard top. I'd guess 30-40% less, just for the top & if it's like the current design, it doesn't matter if it's up or down, the trunk space is the same, it's partitioned off.

BUT, having the vert isn't about grocery shopping or any other storage issues, it's about the sun on your face and wind in your hair, it's about being stopped at a traffic light and just deciding, HEY -- I feeling like dropping the top, it's closer to the feeling of FLYING you get when riding a motorcycle, it's about yoru passangers putting their hands in the air & screaming with JOY while you speed down the freeway, it's about freedom, and the choice to "wear it or not"
... like I said, use the back seat for your over night bag, it's not like any one over 3' tall will be able to ride back there LOL
Will this be your first vert? There is nothing like it, I mean, there are better feelings in the world, but it's pretty dang nice, and after riding with the top down all day, when I put it up or get in a hardtop, I swear, my neck will start hurting because I feel like the sky has falling in on me all of a sudden!

Forget about storage space, buy the vert add the 1000, put the top down and the music up!!!

I guess i'll add it back in to my order and play it by ear. My salesman has been very candid and informative about the whole process, he just warned me at the beginning that with the low 2% build rate of the 1000 system that my order could get overlooked for a couple of weeks as the ford system grabs its orders every Wednesday night from the US dealerships.

Yes, this is my first vert and first Mustang. Very excited....

Default Do Crooks Steal Factory Installed Stereos??

Do I need to worry about someone trying to steal the Shaker 1000 out of the 05 Mustang Convertible? Do crooks try to steal factory installed stereos? Thanks. Wondering if I should get the basic stereo and install a stereo with a removable face plate. Living in Los Angeles and a little concerned. Thanks
