Wondering if the 05 Mustang has a detachable face plate on the stereo to avoid crooks trying to steal it. If not, do u recommend getting the basic sound system and installing my own...do crooks even try to steal factory installed stereos, even if it's the shaker 1000. I live in Los Angeles and am a little worried. Thanks.

I'm sure it happens, but not often, I don't know any one who's had it happen to them. Only a kid is gonna steal a factory stereo, I don't think they can be used in any other cars, so who would want it? AND they are HARD to get out, a theif can't just rip it out like they can an after market head unit. Plus,believe it or not, $1300 don't go very far when buying GOOD stereo equiptment and having it installed. Mid range...$400 for the head unit, $500 for the amp, $400 for speakers... and you still haven't got the extras or the install. Maybe get a sticker that says "this stereo will not work if removed", like Toyotas have.

I work at a Ford dealer and the only thing stolen out of the vehicles on the new car/used car lot are the DVD players and screens in the sportutes. If you get the antitheft system you won't have to worry about the theft of anything, even the car. The Ford system uses a tilt sensor, a pair of sonic detectors and monitors the door and trunk lid. It has a stand alone siren and larger capacity battery.

Right there with you - Alarms and lockjack are one thing, but I still get nervous leaving my "black horse" in certain areas - like anywhere I can't watch it!!!

I'm just a little south of you in "The OC" but I make a lot of trips into LA and San Bernardino. Even in Orange County though a friend of mine had his brand new Acura TL broken into, they left the car alone and took a laptop computer.
