Does anyone know if there is a traction control deactivator that automatically turns Traction Control OFF when starting the car, instead of defaulting to ON?
A buddy with an '03 Cobra has one, but I don't know if it will work with the '05.
How hard are these things to install anyways?

I've never used anything to re-program the PCM (I don't remember seeing one of those on my '66 289 ). Being a fairly technical guy, I think I can figure it out...BUT, how can a layman like me find out more about how to buy the right one, how to use one, which tweaks are safe and which I should stay away from?
Any info is very much appreciated! Thanks!

These are the two companies so far to make the re-programmers, the diablo brand is going to be released soon. It,s pretty much the same as installing a superchip except it just re-programs the onboard computer.
The cool thing about the SCT is you can do some of the minor programming changes on your own PC with SCT's application software. SCT has a dealer link to experts in your local area who create the custome tunes for your handheld programmer and can even dyno your car before and after.
At the moment I am just doing the bolt on mods and waiting for these companies to perfect the standard upgrade tunes. I don't have crazy money to spend on experimenting so I am waiting for the aftermarket people to do there stuff. As far as tweaks to stay away from as long you don't exceed the redline everything should be ok. 2005RedGT has the most experience so far in the re-programming frontier and seems to be having great success.
P.S. Your 66 289 should be a proud to have a son like the 05.
Wow! That is great information! And I agree - the SCT seems to be the way to go for now.
What bolt-ons do you suggest, and what does the addition of these do to the warranty (if you know)?
I'm thinking of JBA Shorties, Magnaflow cat-backs, and something for the intake...in addition to the SCT. Am I headed in the right direction for some easy bolt-on power?
One more question (I know, I'm too needy): what would these mods do to my ability to pass California smog check? Anyone know? Jiobao, you're in SoCal, right? Do you (or anyone else) know?
Thanks folks!

2. Headers (like the long headers due to more of a run for blending and scavenging , the shorty looks like factory) and a real x-pipe, plus the Magnapack Cat-Back System. The H-pipe just helps the back pressure and the X-pipe performs exhaust scavenging.
3. Cold air intake kit, waiting for one to be out soon (so their email says) from K&N. Only thing about the emmisions is the hydrocarbon trap presently installed in intake tube. Took mine out played around, put back in seems to run better with it installed?
Hope this helps, and these are also easy to do on your own.
I like the idea of underdrive pulleys...anyone have thoughts about the issues of less damping and what the impact of that is on the main bearings/seals? Also, seems the SHM damper mentioned in the previous post does what they can to resolve the damping issue.
Would you replace the factory H-pipe with an X-pipe? I'm interested to know what the pros and cons are for this.
Headers, mufflers, cold air intake, and the XCalibrator (and possible Steeda springs) are already on the short list of mods to come. I think those are a good start.
Anyone using a Tri-ax shifter in their '05 yet? Wondering how much better the precision is...and I like the autostops.
