Let me put it this way.... The manual is always going to produce more hp at the rear wheels than an automatic if the engines have the same hp. PERIOD....
However, the only real difference between the two would be difference in the mechanical loss due to friction in the transmission.
In a manual ( assuming the the clutch does not slip ) the only friction is that of the bearings/Seals and gears. In an auto, there is some additional loss due to friction in the torque converter since the fluid has to have some friction against the walls of the converter. There is also some other very small loses like the vaccuum used to acuate the shifter however, I doubt they even add up to a single hp...
Howeve, anyone who thinks the converter eats up 30hp is delusional....
Typically, there is between 10-15hp loss in an automatic vs a manual.
