Does anybody know if there is an aftermarket satellite radio for the 2005 Mustang. I contacted Visteon the company who is putting satellite radios in at Ford dealerships and they said they're not doing it for the 2005 Mustang. I read somewhere that Delphi Automotive (formerly Delco Electronics) makes the Audiophile Shaker 500 and 1000 radios, fyi.
I tried an Xact Sirius model and then found the Delphi Roady 2 with XM service has more and better channels. However the reception isn't as good. I am currently using the built in FM modulator, but I am trying to find wiring schematics for the Shaker 500. I think the Aux input might work if I can find out which pins to use. The Shaker 500 has three rectangular connectors and no RCA plugs! About half of the pins have no wires connected. The dealer says the Aux button is only for an additional 6-disc trunk mounted changer. I hear the library might have wiring schematics. I am also looking into a wired FM modulator option instead.
The kit comes with the FM modulator but I dont think that is the best way to go. There is a TON of base, very little between base and mid-range and everything else is fine. I have ordered a adapter from http://www.logjamelectronics.com/ which just came out with the 05 Shaker AUX connector and RCA plugs that my Sirius Starbase will plug into. Check out www.siriusbackstage.com for more install information. I will try and find the links for the dash dissalembly and wiring diagrams for the Shaker radio. I got the info off of that web site.
PM me with any other questions or information you might have.
I bought the Calrion Calypso unit. It's a little bigger than most Sirius units (3" x 2"). But the display is one of the biggest i have seen. You can see the artist song title, signal strength, channel, time all at once. It's pretty sweet. And it's only 100 bucks.(xtra 50 if you include the car kits which you kinda have to)
Wish Ford had an upgrade option with sirius builtin. Going for the PIE adapter though. Just have to find a good mounting bracket for the head unit.

I installed a XM Roady2 in my Mustang and it works great! Now that PIE Electronics has come up with a workable AUX connector for the 05 Mustang, I will probably order one once they're released to the public and install it so I can stop using the Roady2's built-in FM modulator.

You can't use the AUX pins to add anything to the Shaker 500. According to Ford engineers, the Shaker uses digital bus technology to recognize add-ons such as a changer unit, etc. BUT, have no fear, www.pie.net is currently field testing an aux adapter unit that will solve your and many other Mustangers (including me) external audio problem. The PIE unit tricks the Shaker into thinking an aux device is connected. You will be able to connect an Ipod, XM/Sirius Satellite, etc. Basically anything that has a "headphone" type output will be able to be used with the adapter. Check out their website. They have a forum you can look at to get the latest scoop.
OK. Never mind. Guess I should have read the previous two posts. hehe

I was in getting my first oil change and tire rotation yesterday, and I asked the guy about XM, he said that Ford has an agreement with Sirius and that there is going to be an add on module avialable for the Shakers in a couple of months. This add on module will use the Shaker display for the Sat radio. I give it a 50/50 chance he is right, as it would be cool. I just wish that they could also do XM. Oh well, I have already ordered my PIE adapter, and once that is in will decide which radio to get.

I just changed my order from a GT Premium to a GT Deluxe to get rid of the shaker system because it wasn't compatible with sat radio. I talked to ford customer service several times before I did this to make sure that the 2006 models were not going to be sat ready. I think it would be doubtful that ford would come out with an adapter mid year to fix this problem. Delphi, the maker of this radio would have to do it.
I ordered a GT deluxe for the same reason. You can get all types of aftermarket parts now to mount and wire a new radio in. I've had a few people think my install was factory (until they look closer at the head) because the mounting adapter matches perfectly. I have a Panasonic head (70 W x 4 built-in amp), XM radio (plugs into the Panasonic head and uses its display), Scoshe subwoofer (mounts in the trunk using the same mounts as the Shaker 1000), Rockford Fosgate sub amp (mounted to a custom bracket in the trunk next to the sub), and Kenwood tri-axial speakers in place of the factory 5x7/6x8's. It can easily get loud enough to damage your hearing (if you like), and it's always fun to watch the rearview mirror dance to the music.
