Hello, I found this thread interesting and thought how unfair of the dealer to do this...My husband bought me my 05 Windveil Blue Auto...for Easter.. Because it was a gift I didn't bother to ask how much? So after reading this thread I asked him what he thought of the dealerships doing this and he said that our dealer gave him a discount of $700.00. So not all dealerships are out to make $$$. I guess we were very lucky...
dsnow,is your a GT or a v6? Glen is talking about the GT markups. It almost happened to me,but it was even more of a markup. I bought my black 05 GT Premium and took delivery on November 18th,2004. My black one was on the showroom, right next to a legend lime GT. I started talking to the salesman, and he told me the green was sold to a gentleman in Germany, who paid 5 GRAND over sticker!!!! The salesman said this was the "norm" I LITERALLY laughed in his face, and these people actually put a little cheesy piece of paper in the window to show this "increase" After I finished laughing, I reached into the black GT and pulled their tacked on piece of paper out of the car, walked to the nearest bucket, and said"well you won't be needing this" the salesman looked a little shaken,so yeah, I did pay MSRP,but don't EVER pay over sticker on anything! I'm still sick on paying sticker!!! But they did give me more for my trade than what I could get for it privately, plus they gave me lo jack and that snake oil teflon sealent for free
The wife is a Ford Credit employee and the party line from Ford Credit is they will not finance anything sold over sticker. They have a stake in the pricing due to the possibility of someone deadbeating them on the car and all they can do is send it to the auction. Sure they can try and get the difference paid by the deadbeat but as the old saying goes...you can't get blood from a turnip. BTW the Ford dealer in Tyson's Corner Va. is selling their one and only GT for $3K over MSRP...it is still there after several weeks. Looks like they will be forced to play nice in order to sell it. I had to order mine because I was an "A" plan purchase and had to shop dealers in the Tampa area before I could get one to sell to me...this allocation thing has severely limited the dealers. I guess I was lucky, he only had one more allotment after mine back in Feb. I'm still awaiting the delivery of my baby 5 months later...4 more months and I could have had a human!
I have been waiting for this car ever since I saw the concept vehicle a couple of years ago. I always wanted an early fastback, and when I saw this vehicle, I knew it was for me. I just took delivery last week of my new Sonic Blue GT. Having said that, I must make it clear that I have waited years to get a car like this. I worked hard and saved my nickles. The posts on this thread about supply and demand are correct and right on target. However, the only reason the dealers can mark up a vehicle is because there is a shortage compared with demand, and people aren't willing to wait. If people just moved on to another dealer or said no, the incentive to mark up the car would be gone. My dealer admitted right up front that they weren't discounting the GT's, but they weren't marking them up either. If they had, I would have just waited a little longer, or continued searching. Admittedly, I do have that luxury. I'v never paid MSRP for a vehicle, and certainly wouldn't have paid above.
There are some serious shennanigans going on with this car. People waiting for months are being taken advantage of. I went in, ordered the car and got it in about 7 weeks. I have read posts of people who ordered cars before me, and are excited because they're getting ready to be built or are taking several weeks in transit. How can this be? How can I order a car after them, and take delivery sooner? Even my dealer felt there was something wrong with this scenario.
I don't hink it's fair to blame Ford entirely (although they should have predicted a heavy demand), but don't forget the dealers are quasi-independent. They buy the cars from Ford and then hope to sell them before the first payment is due (dealer hold-back I believe it's called). If they can get more from the car, then so be it. It's up to the consumer to tell them to stuff it.
I went by the dealer near me (Greenville Ford) recently. Discovered that apparently the cars that they weren't selling for 3000 over sticker was greedy enough.
Now they're trying to sell them at 5000 over MSRP. Plus they're adding dealer extras, new tires, wheels, really bad looking vinyl stripes, etc...
They've got a black GT that they're trying to sell at over 38K. And they've had it since February.
a GT on the lot here. It's the ONLY vehicle on the lot that has no price in the window. An '05 GT pretty much sells itself. Geeee.... I wonder why it's been there over three weeks.

When we got our car, we were charged sticker, plus $500 for the dealer swap of GTs (our dealer had an auto, and we wanted a manual) We later found the other dealer's sticker in the glove box, and he had marked up our car by 30%. I would never pay above sticker just to be the first for anything. The $500 was bad enough.

When I bought mine, I shopped at two different dealers in Columbus, OH when I was home on leave. One tried to tack $2000 onto a V6, the other was going to really undercut me on the trade in. Both cars were with the manual tranny, which I wanted, and I was willing to own either one of them. They wanted to screw me on the deal. Disappointed I went back to Fort Drum without a new mustang. The first weekend up here, I went to the local dealer, seeing what they would do for me. They gave me a great deal on one, $2k better than anyone in Columbus, but unfortunately I had to get an automatic. I'm really happy with my mustang, and I've learned that no matter what a dealer says, there's always a dealer out there that'll give you a straight deal. I will never go back to the other two dealers again...they could have made $2-3k on the sale, and had a repeat customer. Oh well...they never learn!
For grins and giggles, check out autotrader.com and run a search on 2005 Mustangs. There are a BUNCH out there. All kinds from stock to Saleen to Roush. The prices for some of these used vehicles is OUTRAGEOUS. If people are paying $30K + for used GTs with 5-10K miles I may have to consider selling mine for a profit and find a junker to get me to work while I wait until I can get my hands on a Cobra !

I went on my Sunday drive to one of the local Ford dealerships(SUNTRUP FORD) I saw a yellow Mustang GT convertible Loaded MSRP $33k. The thing was it had slight hail damage. So I called Monday to see if there might be a deal on it. I talked to the Sales Manager he said that he needed to run out to the car and get the price. He came back and told me MSRP $33k. He said he will sell it to me for $36k. I said with hail damage on it. He said oh no we will fix that. He said should I put your name on it. I said NO WAY! Thats a rip off. SUNTRUP FORD IN SAINT lOUIS MO. WILL NEVER GET MY BUSINESS OR ANYONE ELSE I KNOW. I am so glad I didn't buy my Stang from them.
Don't really get why you would want to charge over sticker for a vehicle that they make 17,000 of a month....
We get MSRP for our GT's at this dealership and not a penny more...if you have a trade, it's sometimes less, after all, we make money on the trades too.
I have two Coupes...a Yellow and a White...that will be here any day(folks couldn't wait any longer and canceled the orders, but we didn't )...and 16(yep was 18 but I sold two!) Roush Coupes/Converts/....on the ground and coming...and one Supercharged Saleen...at..choke $51K!! But, according to what I am hearing here....I am having a fire sale!!
