So, I assume that your car didn't come with pre-drilled holes. Crap! I told the dealer not to put the front plate on, to NOT drill any holes. When I checked the car out at the day it arrived (the were working on it while I got to see it), it had already holes in the front bumper... When I pointed them out, he told me that it came from the factory like that (it's a GT). Guess he was lying... *******!

mjboerma,
I have noticed that the early (pre mid-Feb.) GT front bumpers had no holes. Since then, the ones
I have seen have a different bumper with an indent for the plate and holes already drilled. Not sure
if this is just in Calif. or for all states.
Yes, this topic has been covered quite extensively. This is what my dealer told me; but, like most of them, they're usually talking out of their rearends. Cars that get ordered for states that are not required to display plates have clean front bumpers. Otherwise, all the cars come out with (2) very small indentations for where the holes are to be drilled for the plates. I believe all the cars come out with the (2) indentations. If you need to mount a front plate, then you have no alternative but to 'bite the bullet' and drill (2) holes. I know it really sucks. I don't think there's any way you'll find something that will attach without drilling any holes. Super-velcro has worked for some, so you can try that.

Hey all- I'd rather have the factory put those holes in or indentations than some googan at the dealer their breaking in that has never seen a drill before. If you get my drift.

My 05 gt was shipped from the factory to Sacramento on Jan.13 and only has the indentations. The dealers are drilling them in ALL cases. The V6 has an entirely different front bumper cover with the plate indent. look at the brochures and you'll see.

There is a little irony in Ohio law. Ohio requires a front plate...however, it is a crime (minor misdemeanor...$100 fine) for a dealer to drill holes into your front bumper without written prior approval. Check out Ohio Revised Code 4517.45:
" (A) No dealer licensed to sell motor vehicles at retail in this state under Chapter 4517. of the Revised Code shall attach to any motor vehicle offered for sale by the dealer any tag or placard bearing the dealer's name, or the name of the dealer's place of business, whenever the method of attachment involves drilling or otherwise creating holes in any part of the body or trim of the vehicle, unless the purchaser consents in writing to such method of attachment.
Any damage to the body or trim of a motor vehicle that results from a violation of this section shall, at the request of the purchaser of the vehicle, be repaired by the dealer in a manner acceptable to the purchaser, and at no cost to the purchaser. (B) Whoever violates this section is guilty of a minor misdemeanor.
I don't suppose you are in Ohio, mjboerma?
My dealer did not drill the holes. I'm sure so many dealers do this in Ohio to put their stupid advertisement license plates on the car...and they get away with it since the owner may not know his rights.

You have to have two plates in Texas. Both must be mounted on the bumper (can't have the front one in the windshield). Although it is a easy ticket to get dismissed. I've gotten one already for no front plate but i use 3m tape a block from the substation take it in pay $10 and get it dismissed. When i leave i just take it off. no mess no residue no front plate till next ticket.
do you guys know anywhere where I can check the laws for Texas
Closest I could find based off of the site 4511.21 listed is:
http://www.capitol.state.tx.us/statu...htm#502.404.00 § 502.404. OPERATION OF VEHICLE WITHOUT LICENSE PLATE OR
REGISTRATION INSIGNIA. (a) A person commits an offense if the
person operates on a public highway during a registration period a
passenger car or commercial motor vehicle that does not display two
license plates, at the front and rear of the vehicle, that have
been:
(1) assigned by the department for the period; or
(2) validated by a registration insignia issued by the
department that establishes that the vehicle is registered for the
period.
(b) A person commits an offense if the person operates on a
public highway during a registration period a passenger car or
commercial motor vehicle, other than a vehicle assigned license
plates for the registration period, that does not properly display
the registration insignia issued by the department that establishes
that the license plates have been validated for the period.
(c) A person commits an offense if the person operates on a
public highway during a registration period a road tractor,
motorcycle, trailer, or semitrailer that does not display a license

(2) validated by a registration insignia issued by the
department that establishes that the vehicle is registered for the
period.
(d) Subsections (a) and (b) do not apply to a dealer
operating a vehicle as provided by law.
(e) An offense under this section is a misdemeanor
punishable by a fine not to exceed $200.
