Default Locking Gas Cap

Anyone know where to get a locking gas cap for the 2005 Mustang? The cap is different from the older years. Is the 2005 interchangeable with any existing models? Ford doesn't have one yet, nor does Stant. Why the hell didn't Ford make one stock? I guess the engineers live in gated communities where no one puts sand in your gas tank.

Default Locking Gas Cap

I haven't had it done to me. Maybe I'm just paranoid. Just seems better safe than sorry.

Default Yes, They Do

I found sand around my filler neck the other day. After paying $175 to have the tank taken apart, no sand was found. I guess somebody thought they were being funny. But, I am surprised that Ford soesn't have a locking cap available.

Default Accessories catalog

I've looked several times at the Ford Accessories web page and can't find one for the 2005. If you saw one, any hints?

When I had my car in the shop, I tried to order a cap. The parts guy checked with Ford. The locking caps are not available yet and it is unknown when they will be.

I'm sure with the price of gas hitting $3.00+ this summer, the only thing I'm worried about going into the gas tank is a siphon hose. There has to be a locking cap out there somewhere.

I am looking right now at Page 11 of my "2005 Mustang Accessories" catalog and they clearly show a "locking gas cap with plastic tether & two keys" for the 2005 Mustang. The base part number shown is 9030.

You should be able to order this directly from your dealer....

I seem to recall back in the 70s some concerns with gas siphoning and prices (if memory serves) were not as high as they are now. Of course, it may have been more a matter of availability then also, but seems current conditions make a locking gas cap a reasonable accessory. It's going to be tough enough affording gas in a GT without having people stealing your hard earned gas. At least we managed to miss getting hit with the Gas Guzzler tax as I understand the Pontiac GTO did ($2000??). Wonder if the Cobra will get hit with one.
