am i over the hill???? okay, i guess i am.....here is why i chose the 05....
for my entire driving life, i have always had a honda, good on mileage, low maintenance, etc, etc...ya know, being "practical" . the hondas were nice, but in my heart, i have always wanted a white mustang convertible with a black top. as i was approaching my 42nd birthday, i decided to just DO IT and get a stang, and then i saw my first 05 coupe, took a test drive, sat down with the dealer and ordered my vert (even though they weren't even in production at the time). she finally arrived on 3-14 and i LOVE HER...
i'm actually glad that i waited this long to get one, because the 05 body style is so classic, it is truly the car i had dreamed of for so many years. here is a link to some pics:
I'm 54 . I think it started with the model cars. I remember my Mother saying oh you'll grow out of it. She was right I did but then I started buying the real thing. First new car 69 Chevelle SS 396-375 HP,rock crusher 4 speed 4;10 posi, 1970 Nova SS 350 4 speed , 7 different Corvettes from a 65 roadster to a 88 roadster,2 69 camaros which the last was a record setter owned for 15 years sold in November of 2003. 3 Mutangs 01 Bullitt, 03 GT and now my current pride and joy an 05 GT. Our age number may be high but we still have that gearhead love for cars.
I was 17 and working with my dad to pay for the first. It was a 66 coupe, turquoise blue, pony interior. He bought it and held it for ransom the whole summer. I bastardized that car(metal flake paint, Zoomies exhaust...) and swore not to do it again.
My second was a 79 cobra. and lawdy! it was gawdy.. Not much to say except I traded it for a 74 vette (I'm not proud, but it's the truth)
Betsy was my third, she was a 66 vert, emberglow, pony interior. Fully restored, I had her for 12 years but alas!! my wife got jealous. She never did like her.
I "gave" her away in November to acquire my recent ride. People think it's my mid-life crisis. They just don't understand...
Hey J&D and leesi your 05's rock. 2 years ago my plan was to purchase
a 65 and do a complete restoration then I saw the 05 CONCEPT and told
my wife if this car goes into production I must have one and sure enough
my car was delivered on 3-16-05 and I couldn't be more excited everyone who
has seen the car can say notinig negative I am 41 and this is the best purchace

I'm a 58. My parents were a true blue Ford family until they switched to Oldsmobiles late in their lives, so I drove a Ford until I graduated from college, the last a 1966 Fairlane GTA, 335hp, automatic. My 2005 Mustang is my 4th Ford out of 24 cars (counting both my wife's cars and mine) so evidently I didn't inherit their brand loyalty genes. I've owned a number of cars with a manual transmission, but only one American car, a 1978 Z28.
1974 Mustang II Mach I, silver with black vinyl, 2.8L V6, auto. Despite being bog slow (14.2 sec 0-60) I really liked this car, but traded it after one year for a 1975 VW Scirocco that I fell in love with.
1979 Mercury Capri R/S, white with tan vinyl, 2.8L V6, auto. Complete quality disaster. Traded for a 1977 Trans Am after one year, thank God.
1995 Mustang GT, white with tan leather, 5.0L V8, auto. Despite some quality issues I liked this car, but traded it after one year for a Z28 anniversary edition that I fell in love with.
2005 Mustang, Windveil blue with light graphite leather, 4.0L V6, auto. ISP, ESP with the stripe removed. After 2 months and 2500 miles I am ready to declare this my all-time favorite car despite a few minor problems that have been well documented on this forum. I've thought about adding white stripes and aftermarket wheels and tires, but probably will keep it just the way it is. I've had a bad history with keeping my Mustangs for any length of time. Hopefully, this time I won't fall in love with another car after a year.
Anyway. I always had performance cars. Two Z-28's (IROC) then a few 4x4's, but when I saw the 05GT at the dealers, when we were replacing the family SUV, i was hooked. I havent owned a Ford for 20 years.. But Ford is really, building good stuff, GT, Expadition, Stang etc.... I was so impressed with the Mustang I bought it that day.. It's faster and better than the IROC.. and i think chevy is tired, just look at the vette... tired. Over the last few years I got busy with work and when i drove the Mustang I remembered why I work....... Forget that mid life crises crap... That's just boaring people trying to make you feel bad, and them feel better.

I am 69 and have a vert on order. Trying to live all those years I missed saving for kids college expenses. I now ride a Harley about 12,000 miles a year and try to ride one of the big HOG rides each year. Leaving in June to finish the ride our HOG group started last year. Will be a ride covering the 26 states east of the Mississippi, got the 22 west of the Mississippi last year. Wanted to try a Mustang since I have started to act like a kid again. My wife, for the past 47 years, makes all the rides with me. We are having fun, why not?
I'm 43. When I was a kid my dad bought a '65 rusted out junker Mustang as a second family vehicle. My mom hated it but it was love at first sight for me. By the time I was driving my parents had the newly redesigned '79 model which I never cared for and the later updates never did it for me. Although I don’t directly work for any car companies, my job occasionally gets me into the design centers in the Detroit area. I saw the '05 concept vehicle about a year and a half ago and felt that feeling all over again. I knew right then and there that I had to have one. My kids are getting themselves and their stuff around pretty good on their own now. Time to have fun again. And what great fun it is!
I know that they're various rallies around the country, how about this summer, let's get a group of the over 40 crowd together for our own. Just a thought to toss around. Maybe somewhere in the middle states. Anyway, below is my story.
I'm 45, my first experience with a mustang was in 69. My uncle bought a brand new 1969 Canary Yellow fastback, black interior, 302 Boss Engine and 4 spead. At 9, taking a ride with him in that sweet little ride left an impression on me for life. I thought that was the fastest and most beautiful car in the world. He probably got 10 tickets in that first year becasue he liked to let that Pony run.
I got my first one in 1979, a 1968 Fastback, automatic, 302 boss engine. I traded my older brother a 1972 Chevy Nova for her. I had to sell her in 1981, young and broke. By the time I could afford one again they had changed the body style. I really hated the new body change and just couldn't get into the new Euro look they gave'em. I married a 1982 GT in 1985 but after driving it, it just didn't give me the same feeling as my first two experiences.
I really got the fever again about 6 years ago and started looking at classic rods from around the country. Just couldn't find one that got into my head and wouldn't leave.
That changed last year when my son (loves cars since before he could read) gave me a hot rod magazine that had a pic of the Mustang concept car from SEMA. Love at first sight and couldn't get it out of my head.
When I saw my torch red on the show room floor in December, talk about an awesome moment. They had it setting beside a new torch red Ford GT with the same striping that I had ordered for my Stang. They made a really great looking couple in their red with white stripes and were turning allot of heads for the dealer. I'm certain that GT is going to miss her but like I told him, she's just a blue collar girl and you're a rich blue blood, you could never understand her.
So the next morning, we left him in the rear view mirror with a couple of nice black stripes on the ground outside of the showroom floor, smiling from ear to ear all the way home.
She's not a daily driver, but we get together almost every weekend when the weather permits, which by the way is today. Time to shut this d*&^ computer off and hit the road.
Click on my gallery for some pic's. I'm going to post updated pics as she get's her make over. Supposed to get my Wheels, CAI and Predator next week.

I'm 65. This is my 3rd 'Stang. I ordered my 1st one
in 1965. It was built one mile from my home in Milptas, CA, close
to San Jose. I went to the factory every day to see if I could spot
my car on the lot awating shipment to the dealer. They closed that
site in 1971 and it's now called The Great Mall. I love all the interest this
new '05 has created. It is the same as when the Mustang made its
debut in 1964. I chose the '05 because it reminds me so much of my
first Mustang. Check out the prices from 1965. I think my car totaled
just over $3500.00 fully loaded.
My new one was built on 3/2 and I should get "the
call" to pick her up this week......I hope.

I'm 40.. So I guess I'm a geezer??? I just love Mustangs... I have had in the past (don't have them anymore) a 1997 Forrest Green V-6.. A 1999 Bright Atlantic Blue V-6... And now an 05.. I like to drive fast , so I can't have a GT or I would be dead by now..... I will drive a stang even if I live to be 100....
iI am 43 and have loved Mustangs since I was a kid. My dad owned a Ford dealership in Iowa in the early 60's to 1980 and I got to drive them once I got my license. I had a 68 that he traded for that we did some body work on and I got to drive in highschool till he sold it, then he let me drive a 77 for 6 months that was brand new that for some reason no one wanted to buy. Then when I graduated highschool in 79 my dad let me order a brand new Mustang. I got a silver with red interior like I have today and it had the 2.3 liter Turbo charged engine. That was a fun car to drive and had alot of power for a 4 cylinder. I totaled that car after about 9 months when I fell asleep at the wheel. A few years later after totaling a 77 Granada that I bought after the 79 Mustang I bought a 70 Mustang with the 302 in Texas. It was one of those fix or repair daily cars that I had for a few more years in the early 80's. I have had many other vehicles since then to now but always wanted a Mustang again. My wife got her first Mustand last year, as she was turning 40, she wanted the 40th Anniversary Mustang. Then when I saw the new 05's and the fact that they looked like the older 60's then I had to have it. I got my coupe on Jan 13th and ordered it on Dec 3rd 2004.
