Lol, alright, why in the world does the stock '05 stang GT (300hp) regarding the 0-60 mph (4.9) and the 1/4 mi times (13.5) BEAT the Steeda (335hp), Saleen (325hp)AND the 440hp GT-R?!?They must really load up the weight with the mods and I know larger rims, 19's and 20's, kill the RWHP with higher inertial loads but, the GT-R is a joke imo. Albeit, the mods all must corner like a dream though.
Any thoughts?

Just like you said. The wheels rob you of HP, and all the mods they put on must weigh it down. But more importantly, the GT they RE-TESTED was broken in. Not fresh out of the factory probably like the other ones. They said the GT has been really broken in, which contributed tothat 0.2 second drop in 0-60.
Although I'm still surprised even with no breakin that they still couldn't keep up with the GT...kind of a waste of money
This is my fourth Mustang, and regretably I bought the Auto. My GT barley smokes the tires, this car feels like a turbo; it starts out weak but once it hit the powerband it screams. I just feel like there is too much to be done to make this car what it should already be...a badass bruiser. During the first week of ownership, a WRX STI ask to race and I said no because I was not confident I would win. I felt like a P@#*$.
Wow, didn't think this thread was still alive. My GT is a 5-speed. This is my first "modern" performance car. In the past I've had 60s and 70s muscle. One got 13s in the 1/4 mile and the other got 12s. The older cars without the computer just had the cable from the pedal to the carb. If I even tapped the gas the front end would jump. That is what I miss the most. Launching feels more subdued in the Stang compared to them, if I'm cruising and give the pedal a tap I don't really notice. However the car looks amazing! I can't think of another car in 2005 that could get the stares this car gets. Not to mention I can't drive anywhere without the tuner punks buzzing around me. I've started saving up for a Vortech supercharger and see what that does. It claims to get a stock GT to 410hp. That sounds nice.
Hmmm maybe you've done the right thing Jimmy. Looks like those WRX STI's and even those Mitsubishis convey more power than their looks would suggest. http://motortrend.com/roadtests/seda...ub/index2.html
Man! I wonder how many WRX owners are taking on the 'stangs and blowing us away?
Actually, I don't have a '05 yet. Do you really regret getting the auto? All my vehicles have been auto. I don't know...I just never really got around to driving stick so well. And I surely don't wanna tear up the gearing by practicing stick driving with a new 05. Someone mentioned a shift kit...what exactly is that?

That's the downside of slapping bigger wheels and tires. While it may (or may not) make your car look better, they will slow it down considerably.
I can feel (butt feel) my GT getting faster the more miles I put on it. I'd like to see a long term test on a GT to see how it compares on a track to a fresh from the factory one.

You have to remember that those cars cost significantly more than the Mustang GT. If you put a supercharger on your stang you would still be less than the price of a WRX STI or an Evo and would blow them out of the water.

On the "Buyers Remorse" subject. I have quite a few issues with my new Stang but knew I'd have most of them. I want to say here I LOVE the car and I have already in three days learned to take it for what it is, a $25K poweful V8 with awesome sound!!
For the few others maybe checking in here thinking about trading a high performance 'luxury' car for the new Stang this is some of my beef...
- Steering wheel shold be smaller with more girth - SC should have a '0' button a pain to hit the brake or 'OFF' - Steering wheel should have stereo buttons - Seatbelt is way back there and shaves my shoulder and/or neck - Rearview mirror is not dimming and lacks gadgets - Where do I keep my sunglasses? - Glow compartment fits... uh, glows, that's it - Small or non existing other storage spots, map pockets behind seats would have helped - Trunk pop on remote only - Shifter is still 'Mustang stir in a pot' (but better than prev. YM's) - My Color is a joke, maybe fun if you're 16 - Side window is to high for 'chroming' - Bottles (avoidable) AND mid console is in the way for shifting and comfort - Gears are long (needs 6-speed) - Drone at +2500 RPM and 80 MPH (needs 6-speed) - Lights cannot be left on with auto turn off - Bi-Xeon lights would have been nice - Wisors are flimsy, vanity mirros look like cheap AM with no lights - Back seat is for stuff - Tranny grinds - Axle grinds - Tranny/Axle clonks with poor technique from rolling - Antenna is 5 feet tall - Side mirrors are from a 18 wheeler in black plastic - Upgraded wheels looks like 80's Taurus AM wheels - Tires like on a wheelbarrow - Handles a bit better than a Taurus - No sunroof option avail (didn't want one anyways)
Pfff... that's what I can think of now... And now you all think I'm an idiot for getting the car in addition to maybe not agreeing...!?!
As I said in the beginning, I LOVE MY STANG, I really do! I knew about most of these things when I ordered it. Some of it maybe could not have been made better due to design limitations and at this GREAT PRICE! I'm more than happy to live with most of it and correct some of it (I got the car to (re)build it for ME!)
Now I want to point out what I'm surprisingly happy with (more so than I expected, and not to mention the looks in and out!)...
- Stock engine - Stock exhaust note, and look of pipes - Seat comfort (power seat is up there with the Euros!) - Shifter is okay - Ergonomics, all is right there! - Shaker 500 plays great (a bit slow mowing CD's and tracks) - View outside, even back - Trunk space - Handling compaired to previous years - Peoples responses (evrybody is in awe, thumbs up everywhere!)
I know there is plenty more, I'm just as happy as can be! I know some show up as drawbacks and again as possitives but the drawbacks was compaird to M3's, Volvo R's and AMG's... 2-3 times as expensive cars! Very hard to mod too...
Just my .02 Euro Cents...

Umm, the Evo is about 2k more than the GT if you would call that significant. Priced my GT with side air, IUP, premium package. came to 28k. Close to what you would pay for a Evo in my opinion. They aren't as popular right now compared to the GT, so I'm sure you could get the sales person to take it well under MSRP.
Come on guys, those ricers and suburus are just motorcycles with 4 doors. You gotta be kidding me. There is ALWAYS going to be a faster car, period. Learn to enjoy the fact with a '05 GT you are driving a LEGEND. No car and I mean NO car currently on the market, has the looks that these guys do. I feel it is THE best looking mustang ever made. Add to that the price, the sweet sound of a V8 and did I mention the price?
I can't imagine a GT with auto. The shift is living the dream. If you do have auto, perhaps a shift kit is the way to go. I know back in the day, we put a BW kit on a 67 Nova auto and it f00kin ripped off the line and chirped the gears with a 283 V8.
Bear in mind these are 4.6/ 281 c.i. engines! 300 HP for 281 cubes is quite good. You won't have the off the line torque but in the power band 3000 to 6000 RPM you can stay with almost anybody in town. have patience, let the car "break in" don't beat the hell outta it till it gets some miles on it, you'll thank me later. Learn when to shift, how to start without frying tires and when to downshift, when the other guy has advantage on you if you want to run him. In other words, if you are in 3rd at 2000rpm and a ricer is going by you in 2nd at 5000 rpm, you're at a disadvantage. Don't give these kids a GT notch by being a newb. Learn which speeds your speedometer will take a downshift, etc. Once you get these driving tips down, you will maximize your results. Any newb can jump into a 69 Camaro 454 and mash the gas pedal and fry the tires, it takes more expertise to maximize a small block to stay on the power band.
You develop max torque at about 4000rpm up to low 5000's, you develope max HP at about 5000-6000 rpm. Use this to your advantage.
If all you want is ET times buy a motorcycle or a tricked out late 60's muscle car big block and enjoy the power to weight ratio. If you are into LEGEND looks, great exhaust sound, decent handling, and 13's ET times, get a '05 stang GT. Put some mods on it, like CAI, tune, etc, and then come back and tell me about the lack of power.
FORD kicks a$$ .

Your computer must not like you. The biggest issue I've had with my new GT is learning how to NOT launch it like a rocket, because when we get pressed back into the seats and leave tire smoke I get "that look" from my wife, who is probably calculating how much rubber costs.
